Guest guest
, I tried to forward your post to several Hospice volunteer groups in CT hoping for a helpful response for you; but couldn't get them  through.  I guess if I were more computer literate I could figure what I'm doing wrong.  Anyway, there are quite a number of these groups in CT listed on the internet; perhaps, it'd be worth trying to contact them.  Sorry I've not been more help.  My thoughts and prayers are with you. Teri in CA    Subject: Urgent plea for help To: lbdcaregivers Date: Sunday, November 6, 2011, 5:09 AM  Power outage and freezing cold nights and days and no hot food, and struggle for basics have made my Dad much sicker, we got a small generator and nurse said he meets criteria for Hospice - and bed is in the family room, but we have to unplug the heater to plug in the bed. If anyone knows of LBD or Parkinsons or Hospice volunteers in northern CT that can help us during the day - we have a paid aide from 10pm to 7am - but need help in the day. Needs to be someone familiar with LBD and hallucinations - he is not ambulatory at all. He is trying to get out of hospital bed - all night and all day to put out all the explosions and scare all the animals away (all hallucinations) email me hanleylin@... Guest guest
Hanley stated " and no hot food " I don't know if your dad can eat regular food, but have you looked into Meals-On-Wheels? http://www.mealcall.org/meals-on-wheels/ct/ They will deliver food to the house for seniors that are homebound and can't get out. I don't think there is a charge, but if there is, it's a small donation. They may have a way to deliver it heated in emergencies and cold weather. http://www.careerbuilder.com/JobSeeker/Jobs/JobDetails.aspx?job_did=J7X76S6SLK96\ BBTS3KD This is for a Hospice Job, but maybe you can contact someone from this site who can help you find Hospice Home Care in your area. I don't know if this helps in your weather, but when my husband was freezing at home, I put a knit cap on his head; like those that skiers wear, and it held the body heat in; like they do when babies are newborn. He also slept with the knit cap on at times and he would pull it off when he warmed up. Plus of course, wrapping him warm in sweaters, jackets, and blankets when he was sitting and sometimes even warm lined gloves. It must be very hard in that cold weather without power. I hope you find answers for your dad's well-being and that your power comes on soon. Guest guest
I wish I had something to offer you other than just my sympathy. Being in Minnesota and having spent years in northern MN, I know what it is like to be without power in cold temperatures, but not for a whole week! (Though, one generation ago, my mom grew up with no power and no plumbing, I can't really fathom what it is like.) When Mom was at home, I worried about one or two nights of power outages. You must be beside yourself. Your email really brings home what the news reports don't. On the news, it looks like just another bad storm. You've made it personal. Thanks for that. I hope you do get power on today. You've been through enough. I'll be thinking about you and offering a few prayers. Guest guest
- I'd recommend reaching out to the local support group facilitator in CT... I know with my group I have a list of caregivers that members in my group recommend -- maybe the facilitator in CT has the same thing - if not, he/she can email the group to get recommendations. http://www.lbda.org/content/local-lbd-support-groups > > > Power outage and freezing cold nights and days and no hot food, and struggle for basics have made my Dad much sicker, we got a small generator and nurse said he meets criteria for Hospice - and bed is in the family room, but we have to unplug the heater to plug in the bed. > > > He is trying to get out of hospital bed - all night and all day to put out all the explosions and scare all the animals away (all hallucinations) > > > > > email me > > > > > hanleylin@... > > > H > > >
Guest guest
It might not be you, Teri. I would assume that, with power out for so long in those areas, network servers providing those websites and email might also be down. This is an outage that is so long that no one could have possibly prepared any technology to withstand it. Only large businesses with large emergency generators are likely to have networks running.
