Guest guest
My wife has been on Buspar (buspirone) for years without any recognizable side effects. Her doc prescribed it pre Lewy DX for generalized anxiety disorder. She was/is a gut reactor to stress which manifests itself similar to irritable bowel syndrome. He told us it was not a benzo and had little abuse potential. Plus it didn't interact with any alcohol intake. But, that didn't matter since she rarely drank. Just from our perspective, it has been well tolerated. However, when riding the Lewy carousel anything can happen.  Jeff ________________________________ To: LBDcaregivers Sent: Monday, December 5, 2011 4:37 PM Subject: Buspirone HCL  My Dad had a really bad episode with this.... Is there anyone else who's had bad side effects with Buspirone? I don't think it's a Benzodiazepine but it seemed to make the halucinations and agitation much much worse. Guest guest
Brad Boeve, MD, mentions Buspar (buspirone) as an anti-anxiety medication that can be used in DLB. Like with all meds, Buspar doesn't work the same in everyone. So it's good that you know that it makes hallucinations and agitation worse. You might consider indicating in your father's medical chart that he is allergic to this medication. Anti-depressants (especially SSRIs) can be prescribed that might address anxiety without the unwanted side effects. > > My Dad had a really bad episode with this....
