Guest guest
Hi, I am just reading your initial post and was going to suggest looking for an infection - UTI or pneumonia - that is usually the cause of something like you describe. Synthroid should not cause any drastic change. Hope he responds well to treatment and is feeling better soon -Dorothy From: LBDcaregivers [mailto:LBDcaregivers ] On Behalf Of klinct Sent: Sunday, November 20, 2011 5:53 AM To: LBDcaregivers Subject: Re: Downhill slide - Could it by synthroid We just found out he has a urinary tract infection. Guest guest
Does he have thyroid issues ? I don't think thats a medicine that causes problems - but not sure. Is it on the list of contraindicated drugs - the list that you get when you join this group ? I think someone on here will tell you that knows more than me. My Dad has gone downhill greatly since the October Nor-easter that knocked out the power in CT for 10 days. The care was changed to Hospice at home. He got better in 2010 and in June 2011 and learned to sit up , stand-up and walk, but this time they said he couldn't and he is in a hospital bed. He has trouble swallowing and Nurse said he eventually will not swallow and stop eating and drinking. and die. the put a catheter in and diapers on. He can eat soup and ice cream. Hospice said it would be days or maybe 2 weeks. That was November 1 and now its Nov 21. Every other day he is alert. Yesterday my husband and a cousin came to visit with me. The cousin is a Physicians Assistant from Boston - he and my husband got my father into a chair ! He was thrilled and smiled ! He had been begging to get out of the hospital bed. He has been begging " to go home " . I say " Dad you are home " . But he has no idea where he is. He looked around the room and asked " Are we in a furniture center? " . He often asks me " do you have a car ? can you take me somewhere - anywhere but here " " there are monsters here don't look behind you - they are waiting for you - they are going to get you - be careful, be careful " . He sees monsters, explosions, fires, - sometimes peacocks and horses - the good hallucinations. His tremors now are very minimal - the shaking used to be a huge thing. The Rn explained that it goes down in steps - he goes down one step then it levels off for a year or so - then down another and on and on. So it isn't fast. I go everyday. There is an aide from 10pm to 6am and 12pm to 5pm - and additional workers come to help with bathing and an RN daily to check catheter. This hurts so much - this is a cruel thing, this LBD - and the steps down to oblivion. I'm sorry I didn't give you a pep-talk.- but it helps me to get it out. If your Dad was mobile before - get a Physical Therapist and good home-care to come to house and teach him to walk and sit-up and eat and all that stuff.
