Guest guest
Hi Dorothy, I don't know how far along your mil is, but one of the things suggested several years ago that I did with my husband until he could no longer understand, was to use a sweat band found in Sports Stores for the head or a headband. It is elastic and can be wound around the wrist to wipe the drool. It is made of Terry Cloth, like towels, and soaks up the drool and is handy on them anytime they need to wipe their mouth, they just bring their wrist up and wipe, most of the time my husband needed prompting to wipe his mouth. They are easily made also with Terry Cloth fabric and elastic. Another thing mentioned was a Tootsie Roll Pop, they are on a stick and can be licked or sucked, but too big to choke on. The sucking action takes away the drool. Sometimes, I had to hold the stick while my husband sucked on it. I also could control when to stop the lollipop if it got too small. These are things mentioned sometime ago and they worked for my husband when he was more alert.  Things seem to be digressing rapidly and this week my mil is drooling a lot. I'm wondering how people might handle this. Based on her medication issues we'd rather try other things before resorting to drugs. I'd appreciate hearing what's worked and what's not worked for managing this. Thank you Dorothy
