Guest guest
Welcome to the weird and mysterious world of MS. Not to make light of MS and your symptoms, but this is something that happens inexplicably to just about all of us. What is the scientific reason? Others can explain better than me. But, I think it has to do with the residual effect of lesions on the spinal cord and in the brain after an exacerbation. The nerve and the myelin sheath don't heal 100% after an exacerbation (sclerosis means "a hardening", kind of a scar tissue at the sight of the damage). Therefore, events such as the flu or heat can cause a flare up of symptoms related to the original attack. For me, I know dry heat and stress and plain tiredness can cause symptoms to get worse. Then, the symptoms can subside and one can get back to an almost "normal" routine. --Mr. Dana F. Hi Everyone: I was wondering if you all experience flare ups and weird symptoms that come and go without rhyme or reason? I could be suffering from optic neuritis, trigeminal neuralgia, bladder issues, numbness and/or weakness in my legs and hands, or loss of balance for weeks or months at a time, and then one morning the symptoms will disappear just as quickly as they arrived. I am trying to figure out what causes the flare ups in the first place, and more importantly, what makes them go away. I recently came down with the flu and it hit me hard (fever, chills, aches, sore throat, cough and earache). I was in the middle of a nasty MS relapse and had a great deal of pain and loss of balance. When the flu cleared up, I noticed that I could once again walk without holding onto walls and wasn't dragging my left leg any more. I would gladly go through the flu again if it puts MS back into remission! Thanks for your input. Marge
Guest guest
If we were vampires, flu would be like sunlight....Not good. All of the fluctuations (excluding the flu time) are normal ...to have activity most times is normal. Are you on an ABC drug?
