To make you all aware,

There has been a response from Cafe Press to one of the ASAN members

(a?). The basic gist was that they expect there to be people who

disagree with their campaigns with nonprofits. (IE, we don't care what

you think!) They just hope you'll agree with a different campaign.

Many people tried to post comments to their blog post. All of those

comments were moderated and never went to their page.

So for all emails you send out, please remember to BCC

info@.... We want to prove to them that this is just

not a small population of their consumers and sellers! And if not, we

are happy to take our business elsewhere (Zazzle anyone?).

10% of the proceeds from anything tagged with " autism " to ASAN? It might be

worth asking about. Best case scenario, we raise money for a good cause.

Worst case scenario, we expose them for the hypocrites they are. Most likely

scenario... see worst case scenario.

Even if the campaign isn't for ASAN, I can think of other worthy

organizations <http://www.sabin.org/>.

Excellent questions . One by one:

Please post the response.

I'm going to leave that to a since she is the one that got the

response. This is just so it's not passed on as if it came to me.

Okay... can we start a different campaign? How about we get them to give

10% of the proceeds from anything tagged with " autism " to ASAN? It might be

worth asking about. Best case scenario, we raise money for a good cause.

They apparently already ahve pre-picked campaigns with other

organizations. We could definitely try to see if they'd do one to ASAN

or the like, but I agree " see worst case scenario. "

Whose blog post? Whose blog? More details please.

My apology for being unclear. Cafe Press runs it own blog. They posted a

blog about the donations to Autism Speaks here:

http://blog.cafepress.com/2011/04/05/a-voice-for-autism/ Again, several

people who got an original forward or email from Cafe Press tried to

show their disappointment there, but those comments were not approved.

Can we get CafePress *retailers*<http://www.cafepress.com/autieliberation>to

take their business elsewhere? Even if we do, what's guaranteeing that Zazzle,

or Etsy, or whomever won't pull the same stunt?

That is one of the big things we're trying to get Autistic retailers to

do. I'm not sure how to make sure the others don't pull that kind of

stunt except to be pre-emptive and suggest a different organization that

they could support for April. If not groups we've already listed, then

perhaps just an org that provides services to a range of disabled persons.

I just received an interesting email from CafePress. Seems they

heard..... I'd post it except it contains that confidentiality

disclaimer on it. They want our opinion, see here:

It started with a " Thank you for your email; " however it was a blog

comment, not an email they were contacting me about and I plan to let

them know that I do not appreciate having my opinion silenced on

their blog. I hope others who commented on their blog will do the same.

I got home and checked the Cafe Press blog. I see most of you got the

generic message about the survey. (They've updated the survey at some

point to include ASAN to donate to!) The blog also has an update stating

how to opt out of their Marketplace which opts you out of the donation

drive as well. How exciting that they heard everyone! (Sorry, I wasn't

around for the randsom note drive, so this is all new and exciting to me!)
