Guest guest
> I wouldn't wait...do it now. I think they could give her less homework and have designated times per the IEP for her to be working on the homework in school with the 1:1...either that or they could perhaps pay for an inhome tutor to help her an hour a day in your home with her homework... < thanks pam, i wrote that to the teacher today, we'll see what she says this afternoon. Guest guest
> Gosh............ I'm sorry, . I hope my note didn't frustrate you more. Even while making the suggestions, I knew this wasn't quite appropriate for an autistic child. But you sounded so desperate, I thought I'd throw it out there. < no, that's ok, grace. i appreciate the effort > No go, huh? Well............................. geez, that is frustrating. < yep, VERY > Have you spoken to her doctor? I wonder if there are ADD type of meds out there that could help with this type of stuff? Maybe there is some mild variation of Ritalin-type meds?< she's already on ritalin. i want to try the super nu-thera, but i haven't got the money. i'm hoping my mom can help. > I mean, if it's a really serious problem for you and her both, then it MIGHT be worth checking into, I would think? Or maybe not. OH FORGET IT! LOL < hahaha, thanks grace. i wouldn't expect anyone not in this particular situation to be able to completely understand, so it's nice that you tried " Help! Jane! Guest guest
> Take the article, state the problems (Trevor, her inattention, OT issues, LD if applicable, etc) and have some suggestions like after school tutoring, aid in the classroom, modified assignments.... < thanks monique. i wrote a few ideas in her notebook this morning, but held on to the article. i figured i'd throw some things out and see how she responded, then, if necessary, i would send her the article. Guest guest
>>>>how many of your kids DO get homework?<<< Jacqui gets homework. The same amount and type as the rest of her class >>>>how many of your kids DON'T get homework?<<<< She does have sort of an " out " clause in her IEP...(extra time, extra help, etc. in school) >>>>if they DO get homework, how do you get them to do it?<<<< This is actually one thing I haven't had a problem with. I sit with her and we have a designated time. I ask her what SHE wants to do first. >>>if they DO get homework and you have MORE than one kid, how do you get them to do it and keep the other(s) busy at the same time?!<<<< Ahhhhh...That problem I do not have. >>>>i have tony attwood's aricle on homework printed and ready to send to the teacher, but should i? or should i continue to try to get kailey to do her homework while trevor is going completely insane? she can do the work, but i need to stay with her CONSTANTLY in order for her to stay attended.<<<< Does she have an IEP ??? Maybe the homework could be modified. That's a perfectly reasonable request. Penny....
Guest guest
>>> i left her for ONE minute to tend to trevor. she was supposed to be writing the word " hat " . when i came back, there were drawings ALL over the paper. that's what i mean. <<<< - This is the same sort of thing that happens to Jacqui while getting ready in the morning. If I leave her alone to get myself ready, she will be off stimming on her magazines. Penny
Guest guest
Pam, This one I have to comment on. has a 1:1 and some days he is adament about NOT doing certain assignments. There is nothing the aide can do on those days, so he ends up having to bring it home to do. Then it's my fight. Plus he gets a homework folder each Monday just like Kaiyley with one 2 sided math paper, one word paper (correct the spelling, fill in the blank, etc.) and one paper with a short story on one side and questions on the other.
