Guest guest
I am just wanting some recommedations from others on the type of Zinc to get. My son sucks on his fingers a great deal, and although he is getting DRN supplement, with Zinc, I think maybe he needs some at night on an empty stomach away from calcium supplements. First, I have noticed if I take zinc on an empty stomach, it can be irritating to the stomach. So my questions are: Kirkman and Thorne have a variety of Zinc products, Zinc picconate, Zinc citrate, etc. what do others recommend for the type of Zinc that will not irritate the stomach? Second, how often/when do you give it, and my son is 43 lbs. --about how much? Thanks!
Guest guest
Hi.. Dr. JM talks about it in CSB and hope I can remember it all correctly.. please double check the book to be sure! Thorne makes Picmins that has zinc Pic. in it and she uses it. Also VRP (vrp.com) makes Zinc Mono that is very well tolerated by many children including mine and for us it is the best form. She suggests the child's weight plus about 20 mg if chelating. It can vary and we have had to go higher at times. Dr. JM does not use multis for the most part so if you are taking a multi, you will need to take into the account of course what is in that product. Wellness Health also makes a new zinc Mono that has some vitamin C as filler if I am remembering right and it is slightly cheaper than VRP brand. We just switched to it after a looong time on the VRP brand and are having good luck with it. Hope this helps!
