Guest guest
Unusually on " Autism Speaks " — a posting by an autistic woman in college: http://blog.autismspeaks.org/2012/02/06/black-white-grey/ It's good — and has been very rare — for that group to have an autistic person *actually* *speaking*: as you know, historically even such " Autism Soaks " site-areas as the one titled " In Their Own Words " have usually been parents posting _their_words, under thet site's area's logo which id a pastel portrait of a toddler — the same pastel toddler picture that appeared even when, rarely, " In Their Own Words " quoted an older autistic person (who, till now, ho was almost always a teen writing about how great his/her oarents & the organization were). Thankfully, " Autism Speaks " is finally moving away from pastel-toddler imagery and sentiment: the current post (in the official blog, _not_buried among parental gush) appears to be genuine & is illustrated with a photo of the adult author. Maybe things are changing over there — if so, that, too, deserves our notice and comments (at least as much as their other, worse verbal behavior has deserved comment). Why, if " Autism Speaks " keeps improving, one day I may even find that I no longer want to put quotation-marks around their name ...
