Guest guest
Hi  I have the opposite problem, I am trying to get treatment, but the hospital insists that they carry out an assessment first. BUT here is the rub, the health board is refusing to pay for the assessment! So the net result I that I cannot get the treatment.  I am currently being prosecuted, because of problems caused by my Autism, but the reason that I am being prosecuted is that I am not currently getting treatment!  DIane Kivi Subject: Re: Re: eval as adult??? Guest guest
=[ I'm lucky in that I am being treated for " mood disorder " but I'd rather have an appropriate label. Sorry to hear it's happening to you, too. In a message dated 2/9/2011 7:41:59 A.M. Guest guest
----- Original Message ----- From: tlcoopi , Could the possible reason why you are having a hard time getting an diagnose because of your gender? It is really hard to get a diagnose in a female because the majority of the studies on autism are done on males, not females. **Frustrating, isn't it? Like females couldn't possibly be on the spectrum?! I know how hard it is because when I was 4 (it was 1985), my mom took me to get an evaluation and they said that I had autistic like tendencies, but they did not diagnosed me as autistic, and I bet that if I was a male during that time period, I would get that diagnose when I was 4, not when I got it at the age of 23 (in 2004). **Better late than never. My older sister is trying to get a referral to get her second child (my niece) for an evaluation, but the pediatrician refused, saying that it would go away if she ignored it. **What kind of ignorant BS advise is that?? Unbelievable! It is not going away because my niece has been experiencing it for years. In case you are wondering, my niece does believe that she has Asperger's herself. **How old is your niece? She must still be a child, so she wouldn't know. Do you think she might have it? I hope that this could help and I believe that female autistics show the signs a lot different than our male counterparts. I think that if you went to get an evaluation for Asperger's, you would have no problems finding someone to do an evaluation. To go for a general autism evaluation would not be a good idea because most practitioners are used to giving a general autism evaluation to a young child, not an adult. **Yes, they still haven't gotten it through their heads that autistic children grow up to be autistic adults. Whenever you see autism discussed, it's in connection with children. D.
Guest guest
Isn't there something in ADA that if a disability is being evaluated (meaning also under consideration of the possibility,) you have the same protections as someone with a disability?? If someone knows about this I also would love to hear more, or even a reference as to where in ADA or disability law this is stated - I heard about it used in a legal case too but not exact reference and I also would like to know! Diane, if this is true than it may possibly mean you cannot get turned down by the health board with an ADA qualifying disability, if the law and were this fact is at could be referenced and documented by you...(?) Guest guest
Hi I am a Danish, living in Denmark, but you are right that Danish law does offer protection, but the authorities often don't obey the law, I think that only the courts will eventually uphold the law! In Europe the politicians have a fixation with what is called 'Anti Social Behaviour' and the problem I have is the behaviors caused by the Autism diagnosis is very similar to how Danish law defines 'Anti Social Behaviour', with the exception that my actions were not willful. This the police have been placed under heavy pressure from the person who assaulted me to press charges.
