Guest guest
Lithium Orotate is definitely worth a try, and for his size, you could start with 1 twice a day and work up to 6 a day with no problem, no testing needed. I get it at VRP. I would also boost his DHA up to at least 1000mg a day; it is very calming for some kids and definitely helps their cognitive functions. Dr. JM Subject: Help Needed for 11yo Boy in Puberty To: csb-autism-rx Date: Wednesday, September 24, 2008, 10:57 AM I hope someone can offer some advice with this. My 11 year old, 140lb, 5'2 " moderately autistic son has entered puberty and his behavior has become very challenging. His speaking ability has also regressed. His DAN Dr. prescribed Tenex last year to help calm him down, but it only seems to make him sleepy later in the day. I've resisted going to psychoactive drugs, but I did see a post from Dr. JM about using VRP's lithium for a young man. Would this be appropriate? Any suggestions would be helpful, Thanks
Guest guest
, The purpose of this forum is to present ideas -- even unpopular ideas -- to help each other. Your son is going through early puberty because he is mercury toxic. Chelation is not very effective due to his high testoserone. The answer here is to reduce his testosterone and chelate. You reduce testosterone by stopping his puberty until a normal age (13). The medication used to do this is Lupron. Regardless of how you feel, suggest you listen to the Geiers: http://www.autismmedia.org/media4.html My son, now 7 and autistic started with a lupron-chelation protocal at age 5 1/2. He has improved drastically. Feel free to email me with any questions/thoughts. Good luck. Guest guest
Wow, I was just about to ask this same question ... Only my son is 16 and is around 100 pounds.... but finally entering into puberty. His was severly delayed because of failure to thrive issues prior to going gfcf.... However he also has (had) a seizure disorder (though it is very under control due to gfcfsfcf diet ..no seizures in 2 years and has mostly weaned off of medication ... may be fully weaned off next month after EEG) Lithium Orotate .. would that be anything like lithium that is a seizure medication? Should I worry about giving it with his seizure medications???? DHA ... as in fish oil DHA ... or seperate? Guest guest
Thank you for the response. My son has been through oral and IV chelation-the IV chelation was last year. The mercury has not been removed completely, according to the porphyrin test, but it has been substantially reduced. We had to give it a break for financial and logistical reasons. He has also been through hyperbaric and other less invasive therapies. Unfortunately, he hasn't had much of an improvement with any of them. > > > , > > The purpose of this forum is to present ideas -- even unpopular ideas -- to help each other. > > Your son is going through early puberty because he is mercury toxic. Guest guest
Hi, Have you tried chelation using DMSA? You can get this at Vitamin Research Products without a prescription and relatively inexpensive. Guest guest
Yes, we used oral DMSA from VRP for many rounds of chelation (following the bi-weekly DAN protocol) several years ago. We didn't follow-up with tests, though, so I don't know how effective it was in pulling mercury. When we did the porphyrin test before starting IV chelation, he was still measuring heavily mercury toxic. He did go though months of weekly/bi-weekly IV chelation with EDTA and DMPS at Dr. Bradstreet's office and that did reduce levels significantly, but not completely. We may start up the IV chelation again, but we'll probably have to wait until next summer when school is out. I am concerned that we haven't seen improvement in his symptoms, though the mercury levels are lower. Of course, there's also no way to tell how much mercury may still be in his brain. I'm very worried that-at 11 years old-the damage may be irreversible. > > Hi, > > Have you tried chelation using DMSA? Guest guest
We have the same concerns with our 12 year old. We are currently investigating the possibility that he may have Mitochondrial dysfunction or disease. Take a look at the attached paper. It's a terrible thought but this study estimates that 35% of children that are diagnosed w/ Autism may have Mitochondrial dysfunction or disease. This disease is prevalent in boys and presents itself with Autistic like features. It is my understanding that while they may have some treatments to arrest the progression of the disease it's not likely they will be able to reverse the damage. We have found the Neubrander B12 protocol very helpful for our son. Guest guest
Could you try sending a link for the study? The list doesn't accept attachments. Thanks! Guest guest
I feel the only answer here is Lupron and chelation. Nothing else has worked for anyone with your child's condition.
