Guest guest
We've done these three (or some variation), plus some, for quite a while. My son will turn 8 in December and we've been doing various yeast treatments since he was 4 1/2. It's my understanding that yeast treatments are relatively safe and this has been our experience as well. We are currently doing Nystatin 3xday, candex (2 capsules every morning), ketokonazole (same as Nizoral)1xday, Aqua Flora (one tblsp. every morning), and Culturelle (2 capsules a day). We rotate Ketokonazole/Nizoral and Diflucan/fluconazole every other month. We started out with Nystatin in the very beginning, after which he had his one and only perfectly normal Microbial Oat (yeast) results. A few months later, the issue was back so we started with the stronger stuff (Nizoral or Diflucan). Over the years we have taken a break from Nizoral and Diflucan every once in a while, but he is almost always taking one of the above or Nystatin. We have not had any liver issues and have blood tests about every 5 months or so. We never had any bad constipation issues, but a year ago he was having a BM about every two days, sometimes three. Now, he has one every day. We also have been doing HBOT since July of this year and after we started that, his BM's became very regular. I hesitate to say what exactly has been working for my son biomedically since we do so many different things, but those are the facts. > > DS (8 yo) has a variety of issues. at 4 yo he was dx w/ food > allergies (he is adhd and autisticish..dr's word.) we have been > gfcf for over 4 years. we recently started nystatin as 4 years ago > he did test high for yeast but i was nervous about doing yeast > treatments. Guest guest
I would always check out persistent constipation primarily being caused by yeast. I have not prescribed nystatin for years since learning that yeasts are much smarter than a topical like nystatin. I have prescribed diflucan for literally many hundreds of children with never a bad reaction - I consider it an extremely safe and useful medication. Nystatin will not touch a long-standing colonized yeast infection, as it is deep in the mucosa where nystatin being a topical will never go. Besides that it must be given every 6 hours or 4 times a day to be useful even when it might be in a light early case, and 1,200,000 units at a time for a big child. Miralax also I do not give to any of my patients; it does have negative side effects in lots of kids. Dr. JM Subject: nystatin, candex and diflucan..oh my.. We have been doing nystatin for about a month. I was cursious what concentration and how often a day folks are doing this? our regular ped said 3X/day and our dev. ped said 4X/day- they work out to be almost the same amount of units/ml each day. also how long should we experience die-off? DS is much more 'scattered'. ..if that is possible. we started him on miralax at the same time to help his poops. (don't yell at me on this one...we've tried everythign and are weaning off after only a month. i know it isn't great..but 8 years and still much constipation- i was at the end of my rope.) I'm hoping that getting at the yeast and then adding probiotics (which in the past have been constipating to him) will help w/ the whole bowl thru-put. I also wondered if folks had ever used 'candex'? I know some products are regional in that certain doctors in that area like them but candex does appear popular amongh the autism crowd here. i am nervous about diflucan. dr. recommended initial blood tests and then 2 weeks after starting as she said that the liver issues are usually right away???? thoughts on that. is anyone doing an anti-fungal parade and what are use rotating with. thanks amy
