Guest guest
Hi , My daughter, Amita, had malrotation of her intestines which was found very early on when she was 2 wks. They corrected it by doing a Ladd procedure which is basically rearranging the positions of her intestines into an inverted N type of a thing. Basically her surgeon felt that there could be volvulus (spelling?) later on and it may be too late by the time we got her to the hospital. Well, since they did do this the surgeon consulted us and went ahead and removed her appendix too since her tummy was now in a different place. (There could be potential misunderstandings later in her life if she got appendicitis and the pain would now occur in a different spot!!!) Yes, this is a CHARGE thing. There was a paper out a long time ago which chronicled many charge abnormalities and this was one of them. Which brings me to a pet theory of mine, I may be totally wrong, but here goes... Malrotation of Intestines, Colobomas (cleft in eye), ear Abnormalities due to Cochlear Abnormalities (insufficient turns etc. in cochlea), Heart abnormalities due to arteries and such going the wrong way....Seems to me there is something about the rotation/turning etc. theme here. Just a thought!! Glad to hear the good news about Nickie, I was on pins and needles till my Amita was extubated successfully back in Jan.
