Guest guest
About the weight thing. The new GI doctor I took Ally too freaked out about Ally's height and weight. She is 25 mths old and weighs 20 lbs and is 31 " tall. He said she was " well off " the chart. Ally does not tube feed. Well now he is wanting to put in a G-tube even though she eats orally. He said she was obviously not taking in enough calories. He wants to put this tube in NEXT WEEK!! His other reasons for the tube are based on the results of the barium test and swallow study. They showed some aspiration into the lungs and he has deemed oral feedings " dangerous " . I am just in shock. We always felt like Ally was a fairly good eater. It also seems to me like Ally is about average size for a CHARGER whether tube fed or not. Don't get me wrong if I felt like she really needed to be tube fed I wouldn't hesitate but she has never had a bad choking/aspiration incident nor has she ever had pneumonia. She is little for her age but aren't most CHARGERS? Ally also has a ve! ry hard time bouncing back after surgery. She lost 4 lbs after her cleft palate repair. I am supposed to call him back today and let him know my decision about the surgery. I am dreading this because I know he will make me feel like I am an irresponsible parent for not wanting the tube. What do you guys think - I want to do what is best for Ally but she LOVES to eat (especially sweets and fruit). Ally is at the very low functioning end of CHARGE - she is just now starting to hold her head up (25 mths old) and about the developmental age of 3 mths. The one thing I felt like she was always good at was eating - boy did I have my bubble busted.
