Guest guest
This is a question for everyone but perhaps Meg in particular -- Our special ed supervisor has suggested that it would be helpful to have a neurological work-up on Aubrie to help determine which if any cranial nerves are impaired. She says that if we knew particular nerves were weak or impaired, we could better tailor speech therapy and fine motor therapy to meet her needs. Besides oral motor problems, Aubrie has a definite weaker side and stronger side of her body as a whole which I think indicates a neurological problem. If we knew more about that, I think it would help in planning her school experiences and making appropriate adaptations. The spec ed director even suggested that this knowledge might help prepare in advance for assistance with handwriting etc which is what you guys have been talking about so much lately. Any comments?? Are there ways a neurologist can evaluate a 3-yr-old to get good information?? Would it be helpful educationally and therapeutically for us to have more info?? Aubrie had a brief neurological exam as an infant which showed some facial weakness and hypotonia. We didn't get much in depth info. She also had an MRI without constrast (the IV fell out before the dye was administered) which appeared normal from what it showed. I welcome any comments, suggestions, or thoughts. Thanks!
