Guest guest
Hi all, Can anybody explain why antifungal medications are recommended when taking Valtrex? Is it because Valtrex weakens the immune system, resulting in being more succeptible to the yeast infections? Thanks,
Guest guest
Who recommends this? (Not me, unless the child has a yeast infection). If it is Stan Kurtz, you might join his list and ask him, then let me know!) Guest guest
It is something that many parents doing Valtrex are telling other parents. That an anti-fungal needs to be on board when doing Valtrex because of the yeast flares. It is something that is talked about in the mb12 valtrex group. I've always heard the same. Guest guest
The paperwork that I have from Stan Kurtz states that parent reports have consistently indicated that the antifungal strategy is one of the moste important elements of the comprehensive approach. Most cases of success (possibly all) have a solid azole antifungal (or Limisil or Amphotericin on board for the entire therapy. It also says that one of the most common mistakes seen is to use of nystatin because of persistant fungal flare symptoms with this method. This may have to do with the entire body being involved in this infection or some other property of these antifungals. He said that after seeing this mistake made time and again with a success rate of less than 5% per parental reports, to him it seems to be a waste of time to engage in antiviral therapy with Nystatin as your fungal strategy. There are a few stories of parents who used the antiviral approach, without the azoles and had children who were calm, turn into a complete mess! > > From: <jrodrig6605@ hotmail.com> > Subject: [csb-autism- rx] Valtrex and Yeast Infections > To: csb-autism-rx@ yahoogroups. com > Date: Tuesday, October 14, 2008, 4:18 AM > > Hi all, > Can anybody explain why antifungal medications are recommended when > taking Valtrex?
