I am a bad one to ask as I am really pretty anti iodine. I have read and

heard from some pretty decent doctors that the iodine loading test is

NOT accurate. Besides doe sthismake sense.. Your body si thowing OUT 64%

if what you took in. Meaning ti cannto use it. TOO MUCH. That is what

that would tell me. I usually have a rpetty logical mind and when you ar

taking THYROID hormones you are taking IODINE and all you need if you ar

taking full replacement as most of us are. In Hashimoto's it stimulates

the thyroid to work. That si how your body uses iodine. It makes it

ointo thyroid hormones which then travel through the blood to various

places to do it;s work. If you have low thyroid due to actual iodine

deficiency, it would behelopfukl to take iodine to help your thyroid

work. if you have Hashimoto's stimulating your thyroid to work

stimulates antibopdies to attck it and destroy it.

The iodine loading test is NOT accurate.

Some people with Hashi's do ok with iodine, but I think a high

percentage do not. I would particularly worry about the mega doses of

iodine commonly recommended.

Perhaps the Hashi's people who do not do well with extra iodine are the

ones that have both Hashi's antibodies and Grave's antibodies. It is

apparently not all that uncommon to have both.

The only iodine in Armour is what is part of the molecular structure of

the hormone molecules.. it's not an iodine source. Anything else that

might be in there is just trace.

Autoimmune antibody levels can vary dramatically over a very short period

of time for some people.. which is why it can be so difficult to

diagnose.

Do you happen to have copies of the labs that were run? I'm curious as to

what the doc was looking at to consider starting hormone replacement.

What dose of Armour was she started on?

How long was she on it when the labs were run?

Have to disagree here Topper! Iodione is considered a TRACE mineral, in other

words, we only need trace amounts of ti, and thyroid hormones contain about 65%

iodine. so for eeveery 100mcg of T4 you would get about 65mcg Iodine. Probabyl a

little less with T3 as it only has 3 iodine atoms per hormone compared to 4

withT4.
