Guest guest
Cory, Which bus are you waiting for? <grin> The point is that the chance of dying from prostate cancer for someone like you is still very much lower than other illnesses and accidents. The median age for death from prostate cancer in the US is still around 82/83 years of age – so half the men who die of the disease are over this age - and the majority of deaths occur in men older than 75, so I’d guess you have a while to wait for that bus to arrive. As a wise old urologist said many years ago: “ Growing old is invariably fatal while prostate cancer is only sometimes so.” In the US, there is about ten times the chance of dying from a heart failure than from prostate cancer – and about the same chance as dying from an automobile accident. Maybe you think of the possibility of that when you start your car, but most people don’t – they get on with their lives – and I think that is very important for all of us PCa people. We have been given our earning that life is finite – and so we should ensure that we enjoy what we have left. Of course many men do die under the age of 75 and I don’t mean to make light of that fact, but those men are likely to be the unfortunate ones with an aggressive form of the disease – and it seems you don’t fall into this category. As I said in my original post, vigilance is still required for men diagnosed with prostate cancer and this continues for many years in most cases – the race we run is a marathon, not a sprint. All the best Terry Herbert I have no medical qualifications but I was diagnosed in ‘96: and have learned a bit since then.
