Guest guest
I want to make sure I'm hearing this right because I have never heard this before. The patient has prostate cancer and the doc says, " He had s/l *seeds* implanted in his prostate. " I'm not sure if he is referring to semen or what exactly. Anyone know? Guest guest
I strongly recommend that you find an oncologist who specializes in PCa. Some are independent but many are at universities where they are doing research on PCa. You might want to call the helpline at PCRI helpline if you are in the US. . Also explore their website at http://www.prostate-cancer.org/ You might want to also read about Young’s experience in his journal at http://www.phoenix5.org/ I am sorry you have to experience this, Good luck. As you probably know, there are several kinds of treatments given for advanced prostate cancer - first line hormone therapy, of which there are several types, second line hormone therapy, of which there are also several types, and chemotherapy. Beyond that, there are some very useful palliative treatments that can help keep you from suffering from the symptoms. The first thing anyone probably needs to know in order to give you any advice is: What treatments have you had so far, and for how long? Is your 1500 PSA what was discovered at the time of diagnosis, or is it what you have reached even after hormone therapy? The next thing I think people need to know is: What kind of medical practitioners are you seeing? If possible, you want to see a medical oncologist who specializes in prostate cancer, or at least follows the field very closely. It should be someone who understands terms like " triple ADT " , and " second line hormone therapy " . Ideally, it should be someone with experience with estradiol, ketoconazole, docetaxol and other advanced drugs. Perhaps it could be someone who could guide you in looking at clinical trials of experimental therapies. Unfortunately, there are no magic bullets. Your time is limited. You may however be able to get a little more time from very good treatment that you might not get otherwise, and you may be able to avoid some or most of the severe pain that many PCa patients suffer if you can find a good palliative care doctor or center. Finally, this is a good time to think about what you want to do with your remaining time. Some people spend their last months in ways that are meaningful to them and are even happy. Others end their lives in fear and despair. Try to get yourself into that first category. I think of this as the final task that each of us faces in our lives. It's an important one. I wish you the very best of luck. Alan Meyer ameyer2@... ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Never miss a thing.
