It make take a year or more to see substantial progress, and as long as two years.

Side Effects after robotic surgery

I had surgery performed on me March 20, 2007. I had stage T3 prostate cancer. The good news I am cancer free and required no futher treatment. The doctor told me he did get all of it and saved my nerves. I am expereincing ED and see little progress in that area. i have been taking Viagra per his suggestion but only get fulness but not really erect.Has anyone had similiar side effects? They say if you don't see any inprovement in 12 to 14 months, it might never work on its own again. Can anyone give me any information on their results after surgery and if improvement took place at a year?

- As you know the nerve bundles are extremely delicate. Even though your surgeon says he saved them, there is still a good chance that they were damaged and might take more time to heal. If you haven't done so I would recommend that you Google robotic prostate surgery and watch an actual video of the procedure. I did and it helped me understand why it can take a year or two for the nerves to heal up and start becoming responsive again. One of our members Doctor J once put it in perspective by saying that our bodies have been through a train wreck and we need to understand that they will require time to heal. One of the trickiest parts of salvaging the nerve bundles is knowing how close you are to them when cutting and cauterizing. Cauterizing a tiny bit too close to the nerves can make a huge difference in whether they heal in 6 months, 1 year, 2 years or ever. This takes a great amount of

skill and some luck. You said you were seeing some minimal progress. I would say minimal progress is better than no progress right? I know this is a tough battle for you having gone through it myself. Just relax and let your body heal. The best thing I ever did for penile rehabilitation as well as getting my confidence back, was using a vacuum pump. It made all the difference in the world. I will celebrate my 2nd anniversary since having robotic surgery on January 6th. I had what is considered an above average experience as far as recovery, and it took me a whole year before I saw what I would call good nerve response. I also saw more improvement between year one and two. Keep your chin up! You're going to heal just fine and before you know it you'll be back in the saddle! I am . Good luck and keep in touch. Thank you for the advice and information. I've never been a patient guy, but I have to now. Mick Northrop wrote: - As you know the nerve bundles are extremely delicate.
