Guest guest
My daughter is a 5 yr old with a probable dx of PDD-NOS. She is high functioning so has been mostly independent since being toilet trained. I have noticed in the past 6 months that her stools are always pasty (the consistency of smooth peanut butter.) The stools are normal colored and slightly malodorous. At the time I took notice of her stools, she was only on an adult dose of fish oil and a liquid multivitamin. In the past 3 months we have initiated Dr McCandless' suggestions (gf/cf/sf diet, numerous vitamins/supplements/probiotics, as well as a one month course of Diflucan followed with Kirkman Yeast Aid.) None of these recent additions have changed her stools in any way. She does not exhibit any dietary intolerances. .. . only complaining of stomach pain within 15 minutes of having a bowel movement. I suspect she had these stools prior to starting fish oil for her underclothing was commonly soiled from what I assumed to be poor wiping ability. I have considered adding fiber of some sort to her supplement regimen. Does anybody have any other advice regarding stools?
Guest guest
I would take away the fish oil and liquid multivitamin for a week and see what happens. Fiber is always good for all of us, of course, but if she eats veggies that is the best place to get fiber. If her stools are still pasty I would get a comprehensive stool analysis and see what is going on in her gut. Dr. JM --- lobro4 wrote: > My daughter is a 5 yr old with a probable dx of > PDD-NOS.
