Guest guest
Donna, uses an FM system both at school and at home. When she started using the FM at school 3 years ago we noticed such a dramatic improvement of her vocalizations we decided to purchase our own system for use at home and in the community. It has been wonderful!!! Besides using it at home she uses it quite a bit out in the community, for example at horseback riding lessons, story time at the library, and gymnastic class. She has a Microvox system by Phonak, which is a wireles system (for the child). The receiver " boots " clip on to the bottom of her hearing aides. Whom ever is speaking wears the microphone, which consists of a pager sized box (that can be clipped onto the speaker's clothing), with a small microphone attached by a thin wire that clips onto the speaker's shirt. The system she uses at school is also a wireless one, but is manufactured by a different company. We purchased the Phonak one because it was compatible with the hearing aids she already had. has a bilateral severe/profound loss. With the FM and hearing aids she tests out in the mild hearing loss range, and can hear speech sounds. Her speech is coming along nicely, with many people outside of our family finally being able to understand quite a bit of what she is saying. She will bring the FM to me every morning when she puts her hearing aids in-she loves using it because she can hear speech so much better with it than with the hearing aids alone. Guest guest
has the same system, except we had to purchase it ourselves. At least that means there is no disagreement about whether he can wear it at home or not (of course he prefers not to wear it at home!).
