Subject: New Labs - HELP :) NO More Reverse T3??To: "RT3_T3" <RT3_T3 >Date: Saturday, December 13, 2008, 6:21 PM

Hey Val and everyone!

I have been super busy but managed to get some new labwork done.

I have been on 100mg T3 only for about 3 months when I got these labs done (added in another 12.5mg before getting the results back). From the looks of them, I my reverse T3 has completely cleared and the rest of it makes me sound hyper, however, still seeing some hypoT symptoms and my temps are hovering around 98.2. What is my new RT3/FT3 ratio? Should I be going by temps or the numbers below?

RT3: <3 (11-32 ng/dl)

FT3: 522 (230-420pg/dl)

FT4: .20 (0.8-1.8 ng/dl)

TSH: <0.01 (0.40-4.50 mlU/L)

Thanks!

Mindi are you sure your adrneals are OK and ferritin OK before going up

further? I would expect to see your temps higher than this with your

labs where they ae. Your RT3 ratio is fine! You can't really figure a

ration with q LESS THAN number but closest would be 52..

Leisa both my doctor and myself thnk we need T3 WAY over range when you

are clearing out RT3 as you have little to NO T4 as a back up.

Ordinarily your body woudl convert T4 as needed when T3 runs low buton

T3 only ther is nothing there for converson so T3 needs to be quite high

so you do not run out of thyroid homrones. Whne i felt well on all T3

myfree t3 ws 620 same ranges as hers.

Oh. Well, I wanted to ask if its necessary to cut out armour drastically and then start(how much) t3...OR can you little by little subtract armour and add cytomel?

Yesterday, my fist day to add 5 m of cytomel..I felt warm and much better..but It was hard to sleep...so today I cut back 1/4 armour and also added the s t3. Felt good but got a little colder late day..so

>>On the armour website it says that each grain equals 25 mcg of cytomel..so wouldnt that be like 62 of cytomel for the 2 1/2?<<

YES BUT when you first stop the Armou in a day the T3 form it is GONE, the T4 is stil there. So if oyu replace it all at once oyu WILL go hyper htyroid and also beat the crap out of your adrneals tryign to deal with it, which is why oyu need ot start with juts replacening the T3 in it thne as the T4 levels dissipate, over the next 4-6 weeks, you replace it wiht more T3. Your starting dose of T3 to replace 2.5 grains would be 22.5 soI woudl start with 25mcg split in at least 2 doses,. then every week you build the T3 dose to replace the T4 conversion as tht aleaves your body.

They even say to drop the armour and pick up T3 in the King Pharm patient info on Cytomel- in fact, they even suggest taking T3 in one dose! So it's not just Lowe. I was shocked to read that.DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION The dosage of thyroid hormones is determined by the indication and must in every case be individualized according to patient When switching a patient to Cytomel (liothyronine sodium) Tabletsfrom thyroid,L-thyroxine or thyroglobulin, discontinue the other medication, initiate Cytomel at a low dosage, and increase gradually according to the patient's response. When selecting a starting dosage, bear in mind that this drug has a rapid onset of action, and that residual effects of the other thyroid preparation may persist for the first several weeks of therapy. I think it is much faster and easier to just drop Amrou entirely and replac the T3 in what you wer taking and slowly build the T3 furthe as your T4 decreases. SO if on 2 grains Amrour you would stoop that and start with 20mcg T3.In a week maybe add 5-7.5mcg T3, and every week add that much andin about 8 weeks you will be fully supported with just T3 and not have RT3 anymore.-- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV

I agree with that. I couldn't wait to drop the T4. I could feel it

making me worse every day with the RT3 problem.

> Im hoping my doc will go along with it. Are you on any extra t3?

Are you asking me. I am on T3 only, up to about 110 mcg now after 5

1/2 wks. Not feeling so suffocated and more energy. Adrenals seem

better. They should be, at 40 mg HC. If I try to back it off my legs

pain starts up.

> Interesting. What amount of t3 did you start with? .I am only taking

6 isocort(around 15 mili cortisol).

I started with about 20 mcg T3. The doctor only prescribed 5 mcg/day,

so I went through that prescription pretty fast. So he gave me a

prescription for 15 mcg/day. Realizing I wasn't going to get enough

out of him, even though I was telling him I felt like I was

suffocating, dead tired and depressed, etc, I ordered from overseas. So

I had to raise slow and eke out my prescription until I got my order.

Last time I talked to his office, after labs, I told him I was taking

30, but he still only gave me a script for 20. So I won't be talking

to them again, possibly until I am ready to get back to Armour. He

will freak for sure if he saw a Free T3. My base heart rate has risen

slowly to about 69, my temps finally moved from ave 97.6 to 97.9 or

even 98.0. Well its low today, but I donated blood, working off my

high ferritin.

Right now, I am on 13 pellets on Isocort and then 1/8 tsp 1% otc HC

cream. Adding in the cream seemed to do really well for my adrenals.

Should I bump it up to 1/4 tsp or add in 1-2 more Isocort? Also, with

the HC cream, I have been putting it on my neck - should I be moving it

around to diff parts of my skin and if so - where is best?
