Guest guest
We have run the gambit on uniforms. My department started out many years ago with the dispatchers wearing street clothes. From there they went to a full uniform similar to what the officers wore. This is because they went from not having a walk up window to taking walk ups. They then relax the rules, keeping the uniform pants put changing the shirts to pull overs (Polo style). We moved to our current station about 4 years ago and are now in a secured center where we have no contact, except via speakerphone, with the outside world. We went back to casual dress, jeans and plain polo shirts that have to be neat and maintained (no holes in the jeans). We had a clothing allowance, it is still in the contract, but we don't receive it as we don't wear " uniforms " anymore. The argument was that as we have to wear certain minimum standards of clothing (my Thorogood tee shirt is out). that we still have a uniform of sorts. The allowance was 300 a year for cleaning and maintenance, which we still have to do and the PD does not have to make the initial layout of money for a full set of clothes when a new person comes on board but the powers to be would not buy in to it. We decided that it was not a battle worth fighting as we are all comfortable in street attire. Guest guest
At South Elgin, I received 5 long sleeve, 5 short sleeve, 3 pr of pants I had to supply the belt, and anything else. They would replace their stuff if needed. Jack Wooten Formerly of South Elgin, IL
