I agree that the statement is misleading but journalists love an attention

grabbing statement.

A more interesting view of these statistics would be the survival rate once you

are diagnosed with one of these diseases. Most people are probably not too

worried when they get influenza or even if they get pneumonia because they

expect to recover and carry on living a normal life. It is usually only the

very old and very young that are killed by these diseases. The diseases

themselves are easy to diagnose and to treat and provided they don't kill you

they generally do not affect you lifestyle once you have recovered.

Prostate cancer on the other hand is not so easy to diagnose and treatment is

not certain to cure the disease regardless of your general state of health or

age. Treatment also carries the likelihood of unwelcome side-effects of one

sort or another.

I think this explains why most men would be more alarmed by being told they had

PC than they would if they discovered they had 'flu.

Bob --

You're standing in front of a freight train. The longer you wait, the

bigger it gets, and the harder it is to get off the track safely.

> My oldest son just

> simply said, don't worry about it. Scared in Alabama, Bob.I am 66

If he meant " don't worry about the cancer " , he's way out to lunch. If

he meant " Don't worry about the surgery " , he doesn't understand where

you're coming from.

But I _do_ understand. Yes, it's scary -- both the cancer, and the

treatments.

Unfortunately, you have a growing tumor, and if you don't treat it, it

will grow out of the prostate. You've got increasing PSA and

increasing involvement. It's not a " gamble " -- if I understand right,

it's a _sure thing_ this will happen.

Somehow -- unless you're so sick that something else will kill you

before the cancer does -- you've got to get past the fear.

PS -- I still think you ought to consider seeds or pellets, if surgery

scares the pants off you. _Any_ treatment is way better than _no_

treatment. Recent results with seeds have been close to (some say " as

good as " ) surgical results.

Yes my oldest so meant don't worry about the cancer. But i have the cancer, Not him. Wednesday is my testing day for treadmill. and nuculer infusion. It will be about four to six hours in length. My cardiologist is trying to determine my risk factors, as my urologist want toach me without some type factor involved. I called and could not get a report on radiation somuch as cost etc. If I have that treatment it will be for 45 days. Medicare will pay 80%. The pellets is my other option. Does anyone know the cost of radiation.

One question I have never seen in this group. Sexual Desire. Why have

I lost penile length? Why do I not care if I ever have sex again?

Could it be from the anti-depressants that I take? Paxil at max dose

60MG. Sotolow for Fibulation 180MG. I cannot remember my last

erection. If I had a partner, and with the outdated Viagra I have I

think I could make it. However; the sensativity has ceased. Have not

had an ejaculation in about two years, or longer. Is this from

medication, or my cancerous condition. I have a few friends (female)

that want to come over, or even stay the week but I am too

embarrassed from this impotency. My Urologist asked me last Friday

about erections, and I said none to speak of. He then said I will not

have any from the deVenci' procedure, but when you heal we have

medication to give you. (Crap) Probably what I have now, Viagra.

There is also a shot that he never mentioned that I know two people

that use it. One is Hugh Heftner, and the other is a friend of mine

that told me about her boyfriend that had to have the shot. Amazing

according to her. I could always buy a " toy " ....Yes my females

friends knows my problem and are willing to help, or see what

happens. The length is what messes up my mind..Still scared in Al.Bob

If you had surgery, the shortening will be silmilar to the length of the gland that was removed. Before my surgery, intensity of sexual drive had been decreasing. Post surgery examination of the removed gland revealed that one side was fibrous in consistency.

Thanks for the info Louis. I called the cancer center today and could

not get a price out of them. She only said it is very expensive. I

will need, or he wants 45 treatments. Insurance pays 80%. I am

spending over the last few years for medication for other conditions

I have. If my drug bill exceeds $2450.00 I have to pay 100% until I

reach $4550.00. I have to have the heart medication, I have to have

the dietbetic medication, I have to have the Flomax for urination

problems. The only other two is for chlorestrol which runs $200.00

per-month not counting the others. Ready to kiss it all goody-bye.

All my problems hit me at the same time. I can remember when I went

ten years and never had an aspirin. But just thought of something; I

am not 30 any longer....Sorry for getting carried away....Bob
