Guest guest
Thanks for that information, Val. I guess I'm hijacking this topic, but it is an important one to me. Since I have reacted to as little as 18 mcg iodine, this could easily be why I'm having trouble since adding 1/2 grain thyroid S back in. 1/2 grain is 19mcg T4, so could amount to about 13 mcg iodine, not counting what is in the T3. But thyroid S also has a list of inactive ingredients about as long as my arm, and one of those may be a problem for me also, so maybe I should try a different brand before giving up again. Can I assume that if the iodine in the Thyroid S T4 is what is bothering me, I MUST be converting the T4? Otherwise it would stay bound into the T4 hormone, right? I have always thought it was the free iodine atoms released in the conversion that might make me react, but if it stayed bound as T4, I would not react. Do you think this is correct? sol wrote: > Have to disagree here Topper! Iodione is considered a TRACE mineral, in other words, we only need trace amounts of ti, and thyroid hormones contain about 65% iodine. so for eeveery 100mcg of T4 you would get about 65mcg Iodine. Probabyl a little less with T3 as it only has 3 iodine atoms per hormone compared to 4 withT4. > >
Guest guest
Yes but to USE thyrid hormones it MUST be deiodinated which means basically de-iodined! T3 must be deiodinated ot T2 dn T1 each releasing iodine ataoms which are then recaptured for the body;s use. Butmaybe wiht JUST enough iodine in the T3 you will not react to excess iodine as you might takeing T4 meds which adds that extra iodine molecule. Maybe there is more FREE iodine in thyroid-s than in Armoru or other brands as well as I assume there logically MUST be some free iodine in these thyroid products as well as the thyroid hormones. Guest guest
Thanks! Does anyone actually know how much T3 is converted to T2 and T1? Since I'm fine with T3, and it is the 'active' hormone, I thought it was taken up and used by the cells as it is, except for any that was converted down the line. Somehow, I didn't think the conversions to T2 and T1 took place very frequently. sol T wrote: > Yes but to USE thyrid hormones it MUST be deiodinated which means basically > de-iodined!
