Val-

My son(age 15) has been hypoT. since birth, I'm sure of it. I haven't

seen any low cortisol symptoms and we didn't test. I started him on

armour and increased slowly to 3 grains(approx. 3-4 months). We were

disappointed, absolutely no diference either way. My son just stopped

taking it. The doctor recommended cytomel. He took up to 75mcg

divided. This started to help him but there was too many ups and

downs and he would forget to take his pills sometimes. I took him to

a new doctor who said he probably has wilson's syndrome and switched

him to a compounded t3(35mcg morning and night=70mcg). I can tell a

big difference. He's lost weight and is happier. He's had a small

bald spot since he was 3 years old that is starting to fill in.

His temps. are still low(97.6 at the doctor's office) and still

fatigued. I wanted the doctor to increase his prescription to see if

he improves. He said he wouldn't until I pay $300 for tests. Then he

said that my son needs to come down to only 15mcg t3 because his tsh

and ft4 were too suppressed. I'm angry and confused. Plus, he said

that my son just needs to do yoga or something....yeah right. Here

are his labs:

April 08---no medication

TSH 2.4 (1-2)

FT4 1.20 (.92-1.57)

FT3 3.9 (3.1-6.0)

December 08---on 70mcg. compounded t3

TSH .010

ft4 .48 (.92-1.57)

ft3 6.4 (3.1-5.1)

Both anti-bodies <10 and <20.

He took his SR t3(35mcg) in the morning and then had the blood test 5

hours later. I asked if this would affect the test and the doctor

said no. I just noticed that the t3 ranges are lower on the second

test. What should I do? I'm worried. The doctor says that his TSH

is dangerously low but my son is finally starting to act happy after

all these years. I haven't told my son that the doctor wants him to

reduce his dose and he wants to increase a little. He has no

signs/symptoms of hyperT. but it looks like he may be pooling,

maybe??? I'm afraid to lower right now, getting him through school is

tough enough. He just told me this morning that he feels good. Thank

you for your help.
