Guest guest
It could be these labs are showing how very badly oyu need iron. It CAN affect thyroid labs, thta I have seen before. And thyroi daffects cholesterol and triglycerides. Guest guest
I agree that iron can effect the thyroid and the thyroid can effect chol. and trigly. but I don't see how taking iron can LOWER my ferritin. Especially since every time I eat iron rich foods lately - like beef, lamb, stinging nettle tea - I feel really messed up. I improve temporarily when i drink green tea but this is usually short lived because it then depletes my magnesium. > > It could be these labs are showing how very badly oyu need iron. Guest guest
HMM I am not that UP on iron issues. Is it possible when your iron goes uop the utilization of it is better thus fiurther draining the reserves (feritin)? -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/RT3_T3/
Guest guest
I'm not sure about iron either but I always thought the opposite were true. At least in the past, taking iron tablets raised my ferritin quickly and rather high. > > HMM I am not that UP on iron issues. Guest guest
I don't think taking iron for 11 days would have much effect on your ferritin levels? what was your iron dosage? were these tests done at the same laboratory?do they have the same limits? bw nil stranger blood values - iron experts needed I just got more blood results back. In my opinion the results seemstrange enough that either the lab is useless or there was a blood mixup. What do you guys think? Sept. Nov.TSH 18 9FT3 2.84 3.38FT4 0.83 1.02ferritin 140 60iron 28 42heamatocrit 34.2% 39.9%triglyceride 230 72thrombozyten 368 271cholesterol was 168 but is usually high, where as my triglyc. isususally within range but in these test results its reversed. In the 2 months between the different blood results I took ZEROthyroid medication. I did take iron for 11 days though. I find itVERY strange that my ferritin would drop after taking iron, althoughmy iron did increase.------------------------------------
Guest guest
Both in Sept and Nov the same lab was used. My iron dose was 40 mg per day. considering I feel rather ill if I eat high iron foods like beef or lamb I find it strange that taking iron tablets would lower my ferritin. > > I don't think taking iron for 11 days would have much effect on your ferritin levels? what was your iron dosage? > > were these tests done at the same laboratory?do they have the same limits? > > bw > nil > stranger blood values - iron experts needed > > > I just got more blood results back. Guest guest
Hi Robin ~ Recently I had my ferritin tested within one week of the other. The first came out at 125, the second 54. My doctor just ran another ferritin after 3 weeks on iron supplements: 55. He explained the 125 as being elevated due to inflammation, believing the 54 was the correct number, which the third test of 55 confirmed. Based on the 54, I had my first iron infusion yesterday. I'll need 3-4 more to get it to the 90-100 level, where he would like to see it. Yesterday I felt " stronger " and more " solid " . take care, ~ -----Original Message----- I just got more blood results back.
