Guest guest
Kidney: It would be easier to give you advice if, for a couple days, you post *everything* you put in your mouth. Including how much water you drink and any vitamins you take. So many people on this list are so good at catching things that I'm sure they can help pinpoint why you may not be in ketosis. It certainly could be that you body just isn't " there " yet, but you never know! A.
Guest guest
Well, that still doesn't tell us much. The induction plan in the book is pretty liberal. You probably need to provide things like 3 liters of water, 1/2 c. green beans, 4 cups of lettuce, 2 pork chops w/bone, etc. etc. I guess what I am suggesting is *detail*. Guest guest
It could take 4 or 5 days to get into ketosis, so don't panic yet. Also, check the expiry date on your ketostix - old sticks that have been exposed to dampness don't measure well either. Some people never show on the sticks and still lose, so try not to put undue focus on them. I would expect the weight loss to start soon. Perhaps you could send us a list of everything you ate yesterday and plan to eat today and what you think the carb counts are. That will help us see if you are operating under some misconception. Also, make sure to drink at leat 64 oz. of water a day + 8 oz. for every 25 pounds you are overweight. Drinking more water helps to flush out excess water. Keep the faith Kirstie > I am on day 3 now of induction. I tested my urine and no change. I am not > losing yet. I need a pep talk! > Thanks,
Guest guest
One reason that detail is needed is that there are a lot of misconceptions about 'free' foods. Labelling laws that allow carbs at less than 1 gram per serving to be reported as 0 on the label certainly don't help. Many newbies think that cream is 'free' because their label says 0 carb. Heavy whipping cream has 0.41 carbs per tablespoon (6.6 carbs per cup) and adds up quickly if used liberally. It is things like this that could be lurking in your diet that makes us get nosey and ask you to tell us EVERYTHING you stick in your mouth. More interesting to me is to find out what carb count you think you are at because that is how misconceptions can be most easily found. There are known trouble areas for some people. Things like cream, cheese, Atkins bars, etc. are things that may need to be investigated depending on how much of them you are consuming. Often it is just a great big science experiment with your body to find the right way to tweak ATkins for maximum results. Kirstie
Guest guest
Was this in addition to the foods you already sent in for the day? Cream is usually fine in moderation, it's just that you have to make sure you count the carbs. Akins bars have glycerine as an ingredient and it legally doesn't have to be included in the carb count of labels in the US as it generally doesn't behave like a carb. HOWEVER, there are quite a few people who do appear to metabolize glycerine like a carb and for these people, the effective carb count of an Atkins bar is in the 10- 15 carbs per bar range. Until you get into ketosis, I'd stay away from the bars and then when you do start seeing result, try adding them in occasionally and see how your body reacts. Kirstie > You are so right, I did have some cream and 2 atkins bars, that was a > mistake. I have to be more careful and stick with the proteins and water. > Many thanks! > Viki
Guest guest
I would skip the hot dogs for one thing, they may be inexpensive, but real meat is so much better. I would add more salad or LC veggies, make sure you are using mayo and not Miracle Whip (which I greatly prefer). It sounds to me like you aren't eating enougha and that your body is hanging onto your weight because it thinkgs you are starving it. Sorry about all the typos guys, I am doing this from home where editing isn't much of an option and I have a cat sleeping on my lap that bumps me whenever I type more than he likes.
