My Post-op Update - Surgery Dec 11, 2007

Hi to all.I thought I would post an update on my progress.I have been doing fine in regard to my recovery since my surgery on Dec 11th. I went to see my Dr on Friday to get my first post-op PSA. I am extremely happy to report that it was "undetectable" (.01). This is the best indicator thus far that he was successful in getting all the cancer out.I can now start celebrating! ! I feel that 2008 is the start of my new life as a PC survivor, and cancer free. Yes, I know that there will be some people that will say that I must always hold onto that dark cloud of doubt, because there is always a small chance that there could be a recurrence. I say hogwash with that attitude. Because I was proactive in getting my PSA tested every year, I was able to get an early detection, with a very low grade of cancer. I aggressively sought out medical advice and researched into my

treatment options. Then, once I understood my options, I chose the one that provided me the best chance for a long term cure. I have moved forward with a positive resolution from that point forward. Now, with my post-op pathology report showing that all of the margin tissues were negative, and now with my post-op PSA being undetectable, I am confident that I have a much better chance of being cured then there is for a chance of recurrence. I am looking forward to my next 20 plus years without worrying about PC. Yes, I know that I will need to continue to have my PSA checked going forward, but I chose to start living my life again, and put this "prostate cancer" behind me as one of those life-long experiences that just happened along the road. The first 54 years of my life I was blessed with the greatest boners and I had a wonderful sex life. The next 20 plus years I will be blessed with a

great life, and even though I may not have the same great boners that I experienced as a younger man, but my sex life will continue to be wonderful. My wife of 34 years has always loved me as I am. I know that she will continue to love me for the next 20 plus years of our lives together. I will continue to try to bring her pleasure, and she will do the same for me. Mutual happiness is really what a married life is all about anyway, and we are only as happy in life as we allow ourselves to be.I wish all of you the best that life has to offer, regardless of what choices you make for treatment.Best regards,Ted G.

Please the gods that it be so.

But to paraphrase Jefferson:

" The price of freedom from PCa is eternal vigilance. "

IOW: plan for the bad, hope for the good.

Maybe I am one of those who think about the dark clouds, but by God I'm

still here!

Hi Steve.

I chose to plan for the good, and hope for the best.

I am reminded of various people in Pilgrims Progress; some made the

journey with a heavy load, barely keeping their head above water,

others skipped from rock to rock with barely a load on their backs.

They both made it across the great divide, it was just a matter of

how.

Best to you,

Ted G.
