Guest guest
Hi Cat, RE-reading this thread due to a link posted on the NTH-Adrenals list, I wanted to add something. I just read yesterday that megaloblastic anemia (pernicious anemia) can also throw off TIBC results. Didn't say which way they would be skewed though. But I just found another site that says in pernicious anemia the TIBC would lower TIBC. http://www.ucsfhealth.org/adult/adam/data/003489.html This site implies the TIBC is really lowered, the other link seemed to be saying it would be " artificially " skewed making it appear different that the actual value really is. Do yo have any info on this or were you aware of it? I would appreciate any comments or clarification you can give or point me to. thanks, sol > > exactly - > In a nutshell, the full fasting ferritin panel is very volatile, that > is because bacteria and viruses thrive on iron rich blood. > Our clever bodies know this, and when a virus or bacteria threaten > (or inflammation, always good to get a CBC with a ferritin panel and > compare WBC's for imflammation) then the body stores serum iron away > into the liver, elevating ferritin and decreasing serum iron and > depending on where in that process the test happens the tsat can move > about too. >
