I think that they would show your Chiari condition, but please understand, that it is frequently not mentioned by the radiologist who reads them. And many doctors discount the condition as causing no symptoms. But if your MRIs show no herniation before, and the drop of your cerebral tonsils can be shown after...this is very significant. I would advise you to get copies of all your MRIs right away. Look at them for yourself, and you might want to send them to a neurosurgeon favored by the group as a Chiari expert. Get their opinion. To answer your question, yes Chiari can be acquired. It also is a condition you are born with that manifests itself after events such as a minor car accident, child birth or spinal taps.
