Bodies of 2 Missing Firefighters Found

The bodies of two missing Georgia firefighters were found in Florida waters

Tuesday night, just hours after their boat was found overturned in the water.

Coast Guard Petty Officer Suddarth says another boater spotted the

bodies in the water, picked them up and transferred them to Florida Wildlife

Conservation Commission officials. Forty-two-year-old Eli Nichols and

47-year-old Jay Kimball were last seen late Thursday out in the Gulf in their

17-foot boat. The men were firefighters in Alpharetta in Atlanta's northern

suburbs. They failed to report back at work as scheduled in Alpharetta on

Saturday after a fishing trip. The men were wearing life jackets, but a cause

of death has not been determined by the medical examiner. Suddarth said the

bodies were found 15 miles southeast of where the boat was found and 35 miles

west of Keaton Beach. Before the boat was found, the search had shifted about

150 miles to the west, centered about 90 miles south of Panama City.
