Guest guest
What are your/others thoughts about Depakote for the hand sucking and Clonodine(sp?) for sleep onset and staying asleep issues? I live in Michigan, Caleb's regression(although I saw stuff at age one) was clearly obvious the November after he turned 2. I think seasonal affective stuff plays in b/c the hand sucking was less, does seem to increase in Nov after sun decreases dramatically and because he is getting less physical activity outdoors. He is running around living room more also. This is a very unscientific description, but I feel like his brain waves get more agitated during this time of year... Thanks again. Guest guest
I like clonidine for sleep if tenex won't do the job - I don't think I would use depakote unless there were a seizure disorder, and L-carnitine needs to be given alongside depakote to protect the liver from fatty acid oxidation no matter why it is given. Yes, allergies increase inflammatory cytokines and make everything worse - I really like quercetain with Vit C for this. I also like high doses of pure DHA to help this for some kids. Also Vit D should probably be raised to 10,000iu daily in the winter months per the current recommendations, and whenever you get a blood test for any reason be sure and check Vit D (OH) levels, but apparently you would have to get 200,000daily for about 5 months to get toxicity from what I have recently learned. Guest guest
We have tried a number of different GI meds (pentasa, sulfasalazine, endocort, etc), and my two kids don't seem to tolerate any of them. The pentasa type meds cause abdominal pain, and we had a problem with severe reflux on endocort. What should we try to address GI inflammation? Dr. K has suggested trying endocort again soon, but I am feeling wary. I think these IBD meds have significant side effects. > > > Subject: Hand sucking--Any ideas? > To: csb-autism-rx > Date: Sunday, December 7, 2008, 8:44 AM > > > > > > > Hi, > Our son started sucking on his entire hand when he regressed into > autism at age 2. Guest guest
This is what I recommend: 1) Strict dietary control, including elimination of ALL refined sugar, with a 90-food IgG every 4-6 months to make sure certain foods are not keeping the gut inflamed. 2) Stool and urine organic acid tests to direct treatment of gut pathogens; px anti-fungals and anti-bacterials (not nystatin) followed by maintenance with natural anti-pathogens, like Kaprycydin-A and Uva Ursi (I alternate these) 3) Natural anti-inflammatories, such as VRP's Advanced Inflammation Control. (also VRP's Epicor to increase secretory IgA to help shore up gut mucosa as protective barrier 4) Plenty of Vit C & magnesium (to bowel tolerance), Omega-3's esp DHA, B's & Aminos 5) Methylcobalamin and folinic acid to help both gut and brain; get mercury loads down 6) Ecological Formulas IGA+, Integrative's Silybin Phytosome, Zinc and Selenium and other compounds to help glutathione synthesis 7) TD-LDN to help the immune system; HBOT if you can afford it (getting these kids well is not cheap!) Guest guest
I don't know what meds you use if none of Dr. K's work, thank you for the info. on Pentasa, This is when our son started the posturing again, but we also has a soy infraction, so we weren't sure. HBOT(we do soft chamber) does help with the gut stuff, (we notice more formed/normal stools) but it is very expensive and a huge time commitment. thx Pat
Guest guest
You mention Tenex--in your opinion, is using a med like this or clonodine a last resort if Melatonin, and other natural remedies do not work? What is quercetain and who sells it? Why straight DHA versus regular Omega-3 combinations? This is all very helpful... Thank you.
