I have a close buddy [not a part of this group] who underwent RP [open surgery]. Post Op pathology revealed seminal vesicle invasion. He waited a year plus before his PSA began to rise. Ultimately, he underwent a prostascint and thereby determined the one lymph node that was harboring prostate cancer. After 3 months at Datoli in Sarasota, he was physically OK. Played golf through the duration of treatments, but felt weak. His antidote to weakness/depressive mood was moderate physical exercise. These treatments DO impact the man being treated. [i undergo radiation 2 x weekly myself for skin problem, and after three weeks of intense tx, I'm whipped.]

I'm glad you're getting treatment early...and wish you every success.

Radiation treatments

Morning GroupOn December 3 2007 I underwent a radical prosectomy. It went well with minimal side effects. Problems with incontinence nonexistent, issues ED still problematic. In February 2008 I had my first PSA post op; the results were as expected with every indication that all is well. A call the following week brought me back to my Dr's office. It appears that upon completing the analysis of the prostate that there were indications that the capsule may have been breeched. Maybe some of the critters escaped...WHATS THAT YOU SAY?..Any way it was recommended that I begin radiation for the next eight weeks with a little hormonal therapy thrown in. No they didn't find any trace in the lymph's during surgery which is why it proceeded. My question...Have any of you had a similar experience and what am I in store for...I'm in my fourth day of treatment... Already feeling a little tired and experiencing a

recurrent pain in my abdominal area...Success to allcy

You rock. That's why Blockbuster's offering you one month of Blockbuster Total Access, No Cost.

I also had an RP last year. My PSA rose slightly in the tests after surgery. I went thru 33 IMRT treatments. I kept up an excersise routine during treatments and the only 'problems' I had was a little rectal pain for a day or two and a couple episodes of diarrhea. Over-all I may have felt like getting a little more sleep at night, but nothing that slowed me down. I did not have any hormaonal treatments, and don't know what effects that might have. Best of luck in getting ALL the critters. cycburke wrote: Morning GroupOn December 3 2007 I underwent a radical prosectomy. It went well with minimal side effects. In Response to the email from Hans Van Schuerer. If he knows, I would like to know what his buddy's PSA was after 1 year and what it was when he decided to do the prostascint scan. My husband had RP in July of 2002. After the surgery his PSA was .05.

On Sept 2006 PSA -.21, Dec 2006-.17, June 2007-.26. Nov. 2007-.24, April 2008-.35

He has been taking supplements- Stinging Nettle, Dim Palmetto, Muscadine Grape Seed and Omega 3 along with a low fat diet and broccoli and cauliflower everyday. So far his only contact with doctors has been the urologist who did the surgery. His comments so far are a wait and see- which we are able to do but wonder if talking to an oncologist would be appropriate at this time. The urologist has stated that radiation would probably not be done until his PSA reaches 4. Insurance coverage is really not a factor- but wonder if seeing a radiation oncologist at this time would be a waste of time.

We would appreciate any replies.

Thanks.
