In the mean time go here and read the amazing story of Doug, who continues the good fight. http://www.roblesmar.com/features/dougs_prostate.htm#after_llu Read it all, down to the present. He said that is the average. Is that doctor a cancer specialist, an oncologist? I hope so, and that (s)he is well-trained in treatment of PCa. I recommend the handbook _Living with Advanced Prostate Cancer_ available free from the Institute for Continuing Healthcare Education www.iche.edu/advancedpca and via the objective, encyclopedic and reliable website of the Prostate Cancer Research Institute (PCRI) at: http://prostate-cancer.org/index.html Also on the latter site, there is much information available for those with advanced cases. See the sections " Androgen Independent PC " and " High Risk PC. " There is a number of clinical trials of various treatments. If the current medic is not aware of them, I suggest finding a PCa specialist who is. Some are listed on the PCRI site via the portal http://prostate-cancer.org/resource/find-a-physician.html And lastly, post a Prostate Cancer Digest on the website of P2P (Physician to Patient). Registration is available here: http://www.prostatepointers.org/mlist/mlist.html At least one PCa specialist will likely respond within a few days with advice and information at no charge. It can be a life-saver, as I very well know. I'm sorry to see that the present " doctor " appears to have little to offer when there is so much help available. Good luck. Guest guest
,There is currently a small phase II trial going on at Yale University with the drug Phenoxodoil. Phenoxodoil has bee used in Australia with decent results. I believe that you could qualify for the trial, but it is small so contact them immediately. I do have a friend who just joined the trial and is just now starting the drug. It seems to have minimal side effects. You can read more about the trial at my blog for advanced prostate cancer at: www.advancedprostatecancer.net Good luck.On Sat, Mar 1, 2008 at 10:06 PM, Manley wrote: I am 59 years old, diagnosed PCa 8-9-06 Gleason 9. hasn't gone into the bone, has spread to my lungs & bladder. " Details will be found on this site of the National Institutes of Health: http://www.clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT00557037?term=phenoxodiol & cond=prostat\ e+cancer & rank=1 or http://tinyurl.com/2nzgsg The med failed of FDA approval about a year ago, and I've heard from Dr. Strum, renowned PCa specialist, that it was primarily due to the trial design. The drug itself appears to have great promise. I'm hoping that it will be available if/when I need to move to the next stage.
