I couldn't tell you for sure, but possibly you may need to evaluate the

types of fats you are eating combined with the other foods you are eating.

It's definitely something to talk with your Dr. about.

I assume this was after a 12-hour fast?

What follows is my experience - mine alone, and nobody else's. YMMV, so

with that in mind...

I have been getting tested every 3 months since my doctor noticed my weight

loss and asked how I did it. My last test was about 8-10 monts before I

started this WOE. She is a big supporter of Atkins (I didn't know this

until after-the-fact) , but she didn't seem to be as concerned with my

numbers as I was.

My cholesterol numbers have been slowly creeping up since I've been on this

WOE. The HDL has gone up, but so has LDL and triglycerides. She was taking

a " wait and see " attitude, I was taking a " These numbers MUST improve

because I don't want her to take me from this WOE. The last test in May, my

cholesterol had gone up to 226 (from 208 in Febuary), and I echoed my

concerns to the list...several people suggested taking flax seed oil, and I

have been taking 3 a day since. My last test on Aug 15, it was down to 206.

I have also tried to eat more chicken and less beef, but have only made a

lackluster attempt at it.

Another problem is that I am addicted to Krispy Kreme donuts. For me, it

was easier to give up alcohol, recreational drugs and cigarettes (all of

which I used) than to give up those tasty, high-carb rings. But, everyday I

try again...I've gone two days without one...I'm doing OK for now.

If I can just leave them alone I'm sure my results will be better still.

Well, maybe not 12 hrs but I hadn't eaten anything since sometime the

previous evening.

Most (80%) of measureable cholesterol in the blood is produced by your

liver, not the food you eat. Only 7% of the cholesterol in your body is in

the blood. The rest is in ever cell of your body.

If you eat enough cholesterol, your body uses it (cholesterol is essential,

your body needs LOTS, without it, you die). If you eat a low cholesterol

diet, your liver takes over producing it. If you eat cholesterol and carbs,

the insulin signals the liver to produce cholesterol ON TOP of dietary

cholesterol...heart attack waiting to happen.

The key to lowering elevated cholesterol is not in the restriction of

dietary cholesterol or fat, but in the dietary manipulation of the internal

cholesterol regulatory system. Insulin and glucagon regulate production of

cholesterol. As you might have guessed, insulin stimulates cholesterol

production (even when there is enough cholesterol in the blood); glucagon

inhibits cholesterol production, and the body gets what it needs from the

dietary cholesterol.

Protein Power has a great chapter on this!

LC cholesterol improvement takes at least a month.

  • 8 years later...

I received my lab results after being on HC and T3 only for about 7

1/2 weeks. My Free t3 was high at 6.1 with a range of 2.3 to 4.2. My

Rever t3 was less than 17 with a range of 90-350. Seven weeks ago it

was 389. My Ft4 was low at 0.37 with a range of 0.89-1.76. TSh 0.004.

Here's the kicker. I have all hypo symptoms and T3 is showing I am

hyperT. What is going on.

My doctor is going to start me back on Armour at 120mg. My adrenals

are still an issue but I am not getting better no matter what dose of

HC I am on.
