Guest guest
Alan: Thanks. Brilliant idea with the urinal. Maybe I'll get a 5 gallon bucket, a piece of PVC pipe, roll over on my side and pee in the pipe and empty in the AM. Won't even have to sit up!! I haved slightly elevated blood pressure so maybe the Flomax will bring it down and fool my cardiologist. Don't like that fainting bit. Maybe tiny doses to start? Thanks again, Dwight --- Alan Meyer wrote: > > I used Flomax for about five months after HDR > brachytherapy. In > my case, I really needed it because I could hardly > urinate at all > without it. (snip) What Alan describes sounds like a known SE of Flomax called " postural hypotension, " a decrease in blood pressure when arising from a sitting or lying position. The Flomax site on www.rxlist.com covers this and other cautions. See http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/tamsul_ad.htm#AR and especially the section on orthostasis. An editorial note: I have seen so many instances of medics' failure to brief patients on med SEs (and experienced it myself) that I make it a practice always to check a med at least on rxlist.com before touching it. It has helped. Regards, Steve J " ... The Universe is what it is, and it never forgives mistakes--not even ignorant ones ... " -- A. Guest guest
Flomax is a member of the class of alpha inhibitor drugs that is used as a supplemental blood pressure management aid. Cardura (a brand name) is another example. I was in a clinical trial previous to my PRP surgery for almost two years for Silodosin, that promises to be a more selective BPH treatment. Silodosin is of the alpha blocker class. As far as I know, it has not been approved for general use. Because the blood pressure lowering effect of alpha blockers is relatively mild, these are not usually used by itself, but in conjunction with another class of blood pressure treatment drugs.
