Guest guest
I don't think I have had the same level of problems as you and my radiation was aimed slightly higher at the regrowth near my right kidney. There is a bit of IBS which was worse when I was on Casodex. I did have a fortnight on a Greek island to recover but failed to get the British National Health Service to pay for this. I suppose the American insurance system will always pay out for 3 months in Florida .....LOL My best wishes and support go to you and to all who are suffereing from this disease and its treatment. RT side effects Does anyone have ideas about easing the aftermath of RT? I have just had 30Gy (10 x 3Gy) palliative to the prostate and am struggling with rectal problems. Diarrhoea is expected short-term but my haemorrhoids have been aggravated. Some bleeding. Frequent painful visits to the bathroom… I have medication to calm the diarrhoea but have to be careful with that to avoid constipation setting in. Am experimenting with painkillers – paracetamol + ibuprofen seems to help a bit. If I can reduce the pain I can cope. Any shared experiences welcome. Guest guest
I will have to make do with Prudhoe, Northumberland for my recovery! A bit of Net research turned up Acute Radiation Proctitis as the closest match to my symptoms. This usually resolves itself in a few weeks. Pat is out now hoping to get some suppositories from the chemist. I will see the GP next week. I learnt that up to 30Gy is OK and does not normally lead to later Chronic Radiation Proctitis. The risk of that increases with higher dose. I believe a friend of mine, who has had 68Gy (34x2Gy), has this bad QOL problem, which is difficult to treat. I can empathise wholeheartedly with anyone who has this as a chronic problem. Guest guest
, I just have a little tip to offer. You may have already figured this out. Instead of using toilet paper to wipe after a bowel movement use the flushable wipes. They are much easier on the tender tissue. We like the Kleenex brand Cottonelle variety. Most grocery stores stock them right by the toilet paper. Laurel > > Does anyone have ideas about easing the aftermath of RT?
