As for her insisting he is type 2, didn't you say he was a type 1? The only " harmful effect " of insulin that I know of is if the wrong dose (too much) is given which can cause a hypo. And if BGs are checked regularly you can keep on top of this. Hypos are anything below 65. Where his BG needs to be is as close to 100 as possible to avoid complications. Long periods of high BGs can cause all kinds of terrible complications...including death (don't want to scar you but...) It is absolutely critical that Carey get his BGs under control.
