But we still have to pay a license fee for a receiver and another for a car radio if the car is a business asset. Occasionally we hear of a prosecution because a station ran more commercials that program but the fines are very high so it doesn't happen too often. In the US, I found it almost impossible to follow a program properly because the commercials seemed to merge in with the program and it was too easy to lose the thread completely. For a comparison, the Tonight Show with Jay Leno runs for 2 hours in the US, I understand. Well, here, with exactly the same program content, it is all over in well under 1 hour. That is typical of the difference. That is why we understand the US political system as " Government by the Big Corporations, for the Big Corporations. " - the People don't really matter any more. We understand your current presidential election as a competition between two guys who have both been bought by the same business interests (e.g. by the pharmaceutical companies who don't see any need to fix the health system) hence the outcome of the vote is immaterial as far as observers here can see. > it did strike me strange seeing American > shows run in german. I can flip the remote and see exactly the same US shows in French, Spanish, Italian, Polish and Portuguese and even that doesn't make them seem mature, I am sorry to say. Don't you guys ever get programming for adults? (and I don't mean porno or politics)
Guest guest
--- In diabetes_integroups, " Pinkston " <lesliepink@e...> > You understand incorrectly . > The Tonight Show is only an hour long > here. Thank you for the correction, . That was a claim made on a German documentary program about late-night TV shows. > You are obviously willing to believe > the worst about America, based on > hearsay, no matter what you say about > your fondness for it. We have plenty > of mature shows that don't include porno > or politics. No, I didn't mean that. I wanted to refer to adult movies meaning movies that would appeal to educated, thinking, adults but then I remembered that the term " adult movies " is a euphemism for porno in the US and I wanted to exclude them from my remark, not include them. It didn't work, sorry about that but you misunderstood me. > Your German program buyers are ignoring > them and buying what they think you want > to see. Take it up with them if you want > better American Shows. The US entertainment industry is flooding the whole world with films that appeal to the lowest instincts in as many people as possible. The only real way to stop this is to prevent them being made. You know that it is no longer possible to erect trade barriers to keep them out. All the time your Supreme Court interprets the 1st Amendment to mean that gratuitously violent and graphically evil films are free speech, there is no remedy. The US deserves a better film and TV industry than it has; it is dragging us down into the swamp with it. > , in a huff. Snap out of it, , I am sure that you don't enjoy all that film violence and slaughter either, let alone want kids to soak it up, too.
