Dr. Rosner has done surgery on patients with not enough done the 1st

time(Chiari 1 only with " no " C1-3 who's main complaint was that some of

their symptoms had gotten better initially but not all neuro problems

had been resolved. During his presentation at the Conference in

Columbus Oh last Aug, he said that he had learned to be more agressive

with his own operations as the MRI's revealed the need of laminectomy

of C1-2 or further due, to the narrowed/stenosis of those areas and

compromised or missing spinal flow.

I am postings the notes from Kari's pre & post surgery maybe this will

help someone else.

MRI scan: demonstrated tonsil to be 2-3 mm below the foramen magnum on

the right with c1 canal measuring 15 to 16mm and c2 to measure 10 to

11, the remainder of the canal was congenitally (C3-7 10mm) narrow but

without overt distortion of the spinal cord.

Final diagnosis: Hypoplastic posterior fossa with 3.0 to 4.0mm of

tonsilar ectopia with cranial nerve compression and myelopathy

Cerebrospinal fluid showed " no evidence of flow " posterior to the

cerebellum.

Procedure : suboccipital decompression, C1-2 laminectomy, duraplasty

We learned post-op, when he got in there it was even worse chiari than

what showed on the(2)MRI's. She continues to improve daily. She was

diagnosed w/ FMS almost 4 yrs prior and no meds touched her problems -

even our doctors had abandoned her.
