Guest guest
I don't care about the doctors being mindful of lawsuits. I would not see a doctor that was more worried about a lawsuit than he was about my health. When you finish med school your education does not stop. I realize that a lot of doctors are against Atkins because it goes against everything they have been taught.. but when a person is diabetic to me it is more common sense to keep them off of sugar and to keep the weight down. In the case of 's aunt the doctor should be aware that his recommendations are not working and instead of pushing the meds to try to help her. I don't think doctors are rich except for the plastic surgeons in Beverly Hills.(lol) But I do think a lot of them think they are infallible and will not admit they are wrong even when confronted with the evidence. As long as your doctor does not see it hurting you he won't be so against it but my guess is that he would not recommend it to another patient even if they are diabetic and grossly overweight. 's comments about doctors not studying the fact is what I was saying about continuing education, and ITA with her views on the malpractice. That doctor is practicing bad medicine, he is not helping his patient he is hurting her,, Makes me wonder if he has a kickback from the drug company. Sheila *************************** >In defense of our doctors, they are evermindfull of lawsuits and if they sway from the normal accepted practice they risk jeoporadizing their practice because of a law suit. After all the schooling and $$ it takes to get a practice, they are very protective of it. I can't blame them. Everyone thinks all doctors are rich and will sue accordingly so it is hard for them to take a stand on Akins. In my case, a lady in the waiting room told me he was against adkins diet and so I did it without his knowlege. When I made my 3 mo visit after loosing 30 elbos he said that it was great When I told him how he dummied up and wouldn't talk about it. But when the end of the visit came he said " although I don't agree with it you did pretty good with it " and recommended that I go back on it to drop another 30!! Surely this will change his mind about adkins.) ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ >Personally, I would never want to be treated by a doctor whose first concern is that he not be sued. I think it verges on malpractice for a Doctor not to study the facts. Further I think it is malpractice for a doctor to weigh my aunt and see that she has gained 30 lbs on his recommended woe, and moved from being non-insulin dependent to being insulin dependent then have the balls to tell her he isn't concerned and that if she continues to follow his recommendations it would all turn around!!! Unfortunately she's an old schooler who believes her Doctor is infallible. I'm working hard to dislodge that notion. S.
