Guest guest
=Hi all, /=SPAN> I'm wondering--Is Dr. Milhorat the only surgeon that removes the sk=ull? And---Why is he the only one to do this surgery? If I'm=correct, he's been doing it for a few years now? I would think th=at if it is such a good way that others would be doing it by now.= I know I was told that he used to remove smaller pieces of the skull---=now he take the entire back of the head from ear to ear and from top to =bottom. I know at least one person had a problem with=infection and had the plate removed, and now has no protection as plate=and skull are both gone. Has anyone else had this problem? = What are the possibilites of problems in the future with the pla=te? Does anyone else have the concern that if doing this surgery =no one ever sees into the brain to identify other or more significant pr=oblems than originally thought---I know that MRis don't always show everything tha=t is going on. I had Dr. Milhorat's decompression in 1998 before he did the titanium mesh plate. Dr. Milhorat told me that the muscles at the back of the head and neck are very strong and would protect my brain. I didn't have any tenderness in the are at all. When I had my fusion done in 1990, he put in the plate, and I feel very comfortable with that. He is doing a case study and will release the results in a couple of years. Until then, he is perfecting the surgery. I know I was told that he used to remove smaller pieces of the skull--- now he take the entire back of the head from ear to ear and from top to bottom. I have two small wedges of bone next to my ears. Most of the occipital bone is gone. I had the standard decompression done in 1990, and was left with severe, every day headaches. They finally got to the point that nothing would take care of the pain. That is when I found Dr. Milhorat I know at least one person had a problem with infection and had the plate removed, and now has no protection as plate and skull are both gone. Has anyone else had this problem? I didn't have any problems with infection. With any surgery there is the risk of infection. What are the possibilites of problems in the future with the pla te? I guess we will have to wait and see. There are many people that have had to have a plate because of accident or other brain surgery. Plates aren't new, just new to Dr. Milhorat's surgery.
