Re: reference (will the capsule desolve in the body if left in after explant

Research has shown that the capsule never dissolves and does not go

away. This is a line that many doctors give patients when they do

not want to do extensive surgery to remove this tissue. It is a load of cra_!

We try to help women find doctors that will do the surgery properly,

so we have a list of doctors on this site. There are others, of

course, who will do it properly, but many say they will and do not.

En bloc must be done under a general anesthesia. I have heard of a

few women who have tried it under a local, but I do not recommend

that possibility.

You are close to Dr. Feng in Cleveland and Dr. Kolb in Atlanta, both

of whom do it properly.

Charlene,

I went throught the same dilemma. My implanting PS said, "Let's just numb you up and pop those babies out and sew you right back up. You won't like how you look, but it's up to you!" Luckily I went with my gut and had the capsules removed.

If you can afford it it is so much better to get them out. You don't want to have to prolong your health problems. Some women end up having to go back in later and and remove them anyway--another surgery and anesthesia.

There's some research on women who leave the capsules in and the problems they experience because of it-- here is an article on PubMed about this:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve & db=PubMed & list_uids=7824616 & dopt=Abstract

I know going under is not fun, but when you wake up you will be relieved to know you have it all out and can work on recovery.
