ORLANDO, FL

(UroToday.com) - Dr. Klein pointed out that there is no obvious advantage to

whole pelvis radiation. Dr. deKernion emphasized the long term side effects of

ADT. Dr. Fradet in the audience stated that surgery does not necessarily mean

higher morbidity than radiotherapy. Also, studies are not comparing the same

cohorts of patients. Dr. Blute from the Mayo Clinic said that cancer-specific

and overall survival is important and not PSA-free survival.

Dr.

deKernion supported the clinical trials mentioned by Dr. Benson as providing

the tissue necessary to perform molecular correlative studies. Dr. Sandler

argued against the lumpectomy concept in that partial tumor removal is not of

benefit.

With

Sandler, MD, Benson, MD, Klein, MD, and Eastham, MD,

at the Annual Meeting of the American Urological Association (AUA) - May 17 -

22, 2008. Orange County

Convention Center - Orlando, Florida, USA.
