Guest guest
Is this statement correct? <snip> Prostate cancer is .......... the second leading cause of death in American men. <snip> The latest US statistic I can find show that - 1,2 million men died - 336,000 men died of disease of the heart - 288,000 men (24.0%) died of malignant neoplasms (so if the death toll from prostate cancer is around 28,000, that means that 10% of the cancer deaths, or about 2.5% of total male deaths were from prostate cancer) - 70,000 died in accidents - 61,500 died from cerebrovascular disease - 61,000 died from chronic lower respiratory disease - 35,438 died from Diabetes - 28,778 died from influenza and pneumonia On the basis of these figures, prostate cancer is certainly not the second leading cause of death in American men who have about the same chance of dying from influenza - yet men when diagnosed with 'flu simply don't have the same reaction as men diagnosed with prostate cancer. Could that be because they are constantly fed the incorrect information? All the best Terry Herbert I have no medical qualifications but I was diagnosed in ‘96: and have learned a bit since then. My sites are at www.yananow.net and www.prostatecancerwatchfulwaiting.co.za Dr “Snuffy” Myers : " As a physician, I am painfully aware that most of the decisions we make with regard to prostate cancer are made with inadequate data " From: ProstateCancerSupport [mailto:ProstateCancerSupport ] On Behalf Of Kathy Meade Sent: Sunday, 13 January 2008 12:45 AM To: Kathy Meade Subject: Symptoms and Symptom Distress in Localized Prostate Cancer - Abstract Friday, 11 January 2008 College of Nursing, University of Arizona, Tucson, Arizona 85719, USA. chaopinemail (DOT) arizona.eduThis email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it For over a decade, symptom distress has been a key concept in several studies of cancer. However, the definition of symptom distress is still unclear, and there are few measures targeting symptom distress, in general, and specific cancers, in particular. Prostate cancer is the sixth most common cancer worldwide and the second leading cause of death in American men. Many men with clinically localized prostate cancer may experience unique and multidimensional symptoms that occur from diagnosis through treatment, and thereafter. These symptoms associated with the disease and its treatments are in the form of physical and psychological sequelae such as urinary and bowel problems and sexual dysfunction. The purposes of this article are to (1) systematically review literature on symptoms and symptom distress in localized prostate cancer and (2) synthesize evidence of symptom distress applications and measurement in this group. A comprehensive, systematic review was conducted to identify original, data-based studies of symptoms and symptom distress in localized prostate cancer. Clarification of symptom distress and more comprehensive information about symptoms and symptom distress will provide nurses with a better foundation for developing self-management interventions aimed at ameliorating symptom distress and, ultimately, enhancing the quality of life of patients with localized prostate cancer. Thank God she has a better job. (Stock Broker)..So now I know where my money has gone. LOL. After this Wednesday when I go through my Risk Factors we will have a talk, but they want be available at that early stage, and in fact my Cardiologist may not even mention them. The word cancer has never came out of the lips of my two sons. I think they are in denial as I am. But after my last results, and as said I am in the middle of the track, or as I would say as one other said on a fence and don't know which side to go over. Which ever side I choose it will be the wrong one. See, I am a pessimist, born again pessimist thanks to my dad. I got that from him years ago. Ask my friends at Delta; they will say the same thing about me. This has nothing to do with my condition but I want to say this. This is in regards to retirement. I came out at the age of 51. Those that elected to stay until 65, 95% of them are dead and gone. Just a few years after retirement. Why do guys save all their lives, retire, and then die. Some were millionaires. I haven't a pot to piss in nor a window to throw it out of but I have been alive for 15 years, since I retired and still just 66. " What's the deal " . Just as you all have heard you never seen a Brink's Truck following a Funeral possession. Take care, and say a silent prayer for me: I love you all, but since I am in Alabama make it y'all.. Remember it's not you all but Y'all.......Take care, Bob P.S. I will survive! I will have a quality of life! You guys are with me and my prayers are with you...Angels around you tonight. They Will Be There....Bob
