Guest guest
Hi Rogene My problem is that like bread, cereal, coffeee, etc. Things your not suppose to have on the yeast free diet. The first few weeks you cannot absolutley no sugar.....that's hard! I also like sugar-free gum or something to suck on, there is nothing for that either. I am not a veggie lover! I like fruit...cannot have either. Can one just cut back as much as possible, I felt sooo deprived on the diet. I see why most people cannot stay on it. Hugs to you! Guest guest
Cherie, The problem with sugar is that you won't get anywhere as long as you're eating it. . . It's kinda of like trying to stop smoking by cutting back . . . It seldom works as intended. The taste of one cigarette leads to the next . . . same with sugar. Those sugar cravings are the worst! . . . Once you get past those, you'll be able to follow a healthy diet much better. . . Healthy foods will taste better. I'd keep trying to find ways veggies taste good . . . There are all kinds of herbs and spices to dress them up. Your body really needs the nutrients in veggies. There are so many kinds and flavors. They can be combined in an infinite number of ways. I'm sure you'll find some you like if you keep experimenting. . . I love steamed veggies. . . Add a little onion, maybe a bit of garlic, a dab of butter, dash of salt and pepper, a sprinkle of herbs, sprinkle on some sliced almonds and I'm good to go! There are many kinds of beans too . . . You can add all kinds of things to the beans . . . Tomatoes, celery, onions, bell pepper, carrots, garlic, bits of beef or chicken, herbs, spices, etc. . . Yummy! Have you tried looking online for recipes? . . . Later on, you'll be able to tolerate small amounts and fruit. . . But right now it's time to tough it out. You may find that keeping a glass of water or herbal tea nearby to sip on will help. What PH said about following a gluten free diet, even if we're not diagnosed with Celiac disease is interesting . . . It sounds like gluten places a load on our body we don't need. . . However, that's one area where I would try to phase things out. First, switch to whole grains . . . Anything made with white flour can be replaced. If you're not used to eating foods cooked from scratch, it will take a considerable amount of planning to get started. . . It's well worth the effort though. . . It's your health you have to gain! Guest guest
Lynda, I did. Went straight to my hips! I love organic almonds but they like my thighs..LOL! Guest guest
Rogene, I will really have to plan for this diet, however planning has not worked for me. I am a single mom, I have a major commute everyday and I'm getting ready to take over a company on February first, I literaly have no time for cooking. I wish I could afford a chef...wouldn't that be nice! Not sure how I can do that kind of a strict diet right now. Being sick with this nasty cold didn't help either, I had planned a better diet and to start walking on my treadmill soon after surgery...but got sick....again, God changed my plans. Not sure what he has planned for me. I'm just getting up these days and letting him tell me what to do. Doors are not opening for " my way " to occur. I just hope I can figure out what he wants me to do. I know this diet will help me tremendously however, things are not falling info place right now. Guest guest
Cherie, Once you get the hang of it, healthy cooking doesn't take any longer than eating badly . . . especially if you're eating out! . . . We spent two hours having lunch yesterday . . . I could have fixed the meal in fifteen minutes if I had planned ahead! You can eat a lot of veggies raw . . . You can cook ahead with a slow cooker . . . when you prepare one dish, double, or triple it. . . Save the extra portions for later.. . . Reynolds has a wonderful hand-held vacuum bag that takes just seconds to bag and save foods. When I'm cooking, I always cook ahead . . .Hubby laughs, says I'm still cooking for five. However, I love walking into the kitchen and having dinner ready . . . just like he does! Part of the overwhelmed feeling you have right now will fade away as you start feeling better . .. eating healthy is a huge part of getting better . . . Unless you take care of yourself FIRST, you won't be able to take care of others. . . Seriously . . . I get the feeling that you've always sandwiched your needs between those of your job and child. . . Believe it or not, you'll be able to meet those needs better when you take care of yourself first. Maybe God let you have this cold so you could take the time to figure this part of your life out. It's not hard . . . it's just different! Guest guest
Rogene, Your right, I am sandwiched! That's where my stress starts. I can feel very overwhelmed very quickly. That's why I not planning right now. I just let be....be. If it falls into place.....it's meant to be. I have had to do something about my stress level. I am going to take care of myself the very best I can right now and see where it takes me. Ya know, I love cooking with a crockpot....thanks for reminding me about that! It's a wonderful way to have a healthly dinner ready when you get home from work. I will eventually get the hang of cooking, I've just got to feel better first and get back into life. This cold has really set me back. I have a list a mile long of things I want (health, great progress for my daughter, a love life, my own place again, etc.) just have to wait for when God is ready to let me have them. Been waiting a long time.....guess I'm having a HUGE test of patience. Guest guest
Cherie- I noticed in the book that Dr.Rubin talks about autism some. Did you see that? I wonder if it would benefit your daughter any for her to go on some type of diet like this one? Would she go for that at all? I know kids are picky eaters. Guest guest
Cherie, I also love to cook with my crock pot! It's easy and everything always comes out so tastey! Last week I made a home made gravey with meatballs, sausage, and pork for my husband. He said that it came out delicious! Guest guest
Cherie, Following a diet doesn't work well for me either. My husband and I eat out so often. I read the makers diet and decided I would do what I could when I could. I cut out sugar. Although occasionally I eat something that is " reduced sugar added " . I also gave up anything with flour. No more rolls from starbucks :-( I buy wheat free/gluten free bread from the health food store. It isn't too bad. The next thing I gave up eating was pork. I've just concentrated on doing one thing at a time. Surprisingly I have lost 11 lbs since beg of Oct. I tried to lose weight for years with no success. In my case, I can afford to lose weight.. I know many of you here can't do that. Take it slow. Just move in the right direction. > > > > Cherie, > > > > The problem with sugar is that you won't get anywhere as long as > you're eating it. . . > > > > It's kinda of like trying to stop smoking by cutting back . . . Guest guest
Okay, I have started to set up my My Space page but I can't figure out how to make it pretty. I am going to keep playing. I want to add photos and music, but at this point a backgroung would be nice. Once I get it up, even half way, I will let you all know so you can see the photos and then I will set it to private. Lynn Re: Makers Diet Lynn,It's easy to do...if I can do it, anyone can because I've never been savvy w/ computers! If you go to Home and set up an account, you'll automatically get a "friend" Tom, he's the guy that answers all the questions. To get a background, click on the link above where I wrote a paragaph about myself and just follow the instructions. Super easy...my husband had to help me with pics though. I set mine up in one afternoon and then added more pics the next day.My husband was a little concerned, too, like, "Why are you doing this?" but understands it's so I can connect with you guys on the forum. He'd like me to set it to private though because I've had a few rather weird people write. I don't like not knowing who's seeing my kids so I will set it to private when I figure it out. I think it brings us closer though by sharing personal aspects rather than just symptoms. It's been so neat to see what the people look like that I've been corresponding w/ for months and what their personal interests are. Do it if you get a chance! Guest guest
Hi Lynn, To get a background, it's easy to do. Go to http://myspaceoryours.net/ Click on " Myspace layouts " and choose what you like, open it up and it'll give you instructions on how to copy. You basically just hit control C on the HTML code text. Then, go back to your page, Click Home, Click Edit Profile and then paste what you copied into the About Me section. Click on " Save the Changes " and then Click on " View Profile " and it should be there. Guest guest
Lynn, Ya know, I just love my coffee! I get horrible headaches without my coffee, I would have to wean myself off. I may try this diet after the first of the year. Right now, I am horribly sick with a cold, I've got nerve pain in my thigh from the lipo, my kid's behavior has been a challenge, behind in my work AND getting ready to take over this busincess on Feb. 1st......top it off.....it's Christmas. OK, I'm tired just typing all this out!! I gotta get things to calm down and fall into place. I'm hanging in there though! Hugs, Cherie > > Cherie, > > I did the diet on-line and while the first few weeks were bland and tough, it got better. I was able to eat fruit by week two with plain yogurt, raw honey and organic vanilla - yummy! There is also a pinapple treat - ricotta cheese, pinapple and vanilla. There were some good veggies too. I didn't mind the diet too much and I was a huge sweets eater - all I drank was coke and pepsi everyday - - oh and a coffee w/ cream and sugar every morning. It wasn't too hard to break the habit because I knew I was going to get better plus it is just plain healthy. > > Hang in there. > > Lynn > > > > Re: Makers Diet > > Hi Rogene > > My problem is that like bread, cereal, coffeee, etc. Things your not > suppose to have on the yeast free diet.
