Guest guest
In my case, I didn't have my original plastic surgeon remove mine, even though it was only six months after he put them in, and also he would have charged me about 1/3 of what the explanting doctor charged. The reason I went with the doctor I did, was because she has done thousands of explants and I wanted the best results, and she believed that implants made me sick and I wanted to make sure the person who removed them knew the importance of removing the capsule and would do her best to get as much of it as possible, if not all. She did a beautiful job on me, so it was worth every penny. My original plastic surgeon either didn't believe or wouldn't admit that my implants were making me sick, and he said it would take about an hour to remove them. The explanting surgeon told me it would take two hours to remove them, so I felt that she was going to be more thorough. It ended up taking her 3 hours. I'm not saggy at all - but I had mine for only six months, wasn't saggy to begin with, and also this was my only surgery. However, the doctor could perform a lift to avoid sagging - you can ask about that. If you do use your original surgeon, just ask if he/she will use the en bloc procedure, will remove the capsules, and will use drains. Those are what's recommended by the doctors who believe in implant illness. Sis > > just wondering why it is not a good idea to have the original dr remove > them? Guest guest
Dearest Friend: Please go with one of the doctors in this group. I would not have used my implanting plastic surgeon because he still believes that breast implants are safe. He is a rat and he continues to implant women, he had to leave Canada because he was in big trouble here. Guest guest
Hi there, I surely know how much you want to get those things out of you and get your health back. I've been there! My implanting doctor said he would remove mine for free! Can't get a better deal than that, right? But I declined. He said he would not do an en bloc removal, and in fact, said he would just pop them right out of me in his office, no big deal, simple removal and we would call our relationship "done" since my implant fantasy had turned into a nightmare with illness, and I think he wanted to sweep me under the rug and forget about me. He definitely didn't believe that implants were making me sick. I just felt very cautious--that reliable woman's intuition kicking in! It said, "Do not use this man to perform this very important surgery!" He was nice enough, and maintained a certain jovial composure about himself, but it just wasn't right. I was so sick! The reason it is not a good idea to have the original implanting physician remove the implants is because you need this surgery to be done correctly--it takes skill and knowledge to do it right--and most implanting doctors lack the knowledge and understanding of our situation. They may certainly be skilled and have the techniques down for doing a simple removal, but the problem is the scar tissue. They usually don't believe that the scar tissue is a big deal or contributes to illness, and so they don't make the necessary effort to get it all out. Getting out all the scar tissue takes extra effort and skill as it comes with additional risks, but it is so important when a woman is sick. The reason is because the scar capsule can contain silicone degradation products, oils, pathogens, and other "stuff" that is better out of your body than left in. Those particles, however small, can continue to ellicit an immune response, which is what is more than likely going on if you are symptomatic. You can review the risks associated with residual scar capsules in our files and links sections. Dr. Pierre Blais wrote a very important article on this subject. So, bottom line is that if you want your health back, you need to approach this surgery with the necessary caution and research the importance of doing it right. Read our files and opinions of some of the other doctors. Then call around and see who does an en bloc removal with drains in your area. My bet is that there won't be many. They tend to be very ignorant regarding proper removal. These doctors sure can put them in, but they hate to take them out! They'll exchange implants in a second flat too, but when you start talking about just plain removing them for good, things turn ugly. Please keep asking questions. We'll help you through this difficult time. Hugs, Patty okay stupid question regarding explant and what I am going to look like just wondering why it is not a good idea to have the original dr remove them? I figure he will not charge as much. Guest guest
If a doctor does not believe implants make you ill, they have no incentive to remove implants correctly. Also, you want the best cosmetic result possible, and our doctors try to get that for you. Many others just remove the implants and leave you as you are. Guest guest
I would not use my original plastic surgeon, since he kept assuring me nothing was wrong with my saline implants. I felt wierd since he put them in and he kept saying wait a year this will heal. I waited that year and that proves to be the worst thing I could have ever done. I figured he didn't do the first surgery right why let him touch me again. I only had my saline implants for one year and 3 months. I fianlly found this group and decided to go to Dr. Kolb since she really believes that saline implants can make women sick. She removed them en-bloc and did a donut lift on me. She sent them off for testing to Dr. Blais, who says I had mycobacteria growing inside my implants leaking thru a defective valve like a introvenous drip of straight poison. This explains the chronic fatigue, burning joints, yeast, rash, low grade fever daily and plenty of other symptoms. I know the truth know and that means alot to me. If I would have went to my original PS, Yes it would have saved me around 11,000.00, but I would still be sick since they want to just cut a small slice in the implant under the crease and just simply pop it out. Presto there the contamination stays in you forever, the evidence of the truth is destroyed and you are still sick forever. This is a no brainer when you compare the two. Good Luck and God Bless!!!!!!!! Donna okay stupid question regarding explant and what I am going to look like just wondering why it is not a good idea to have the original dr remove them? Guest guest
Hi, My name is Terri P. Welcome and happy holidays, you have come to the right place. I wish I would have known about this site at the time of my explant, Aug 2005. I didn't know about removing the capsules. The Dr. who removed my implants only removed 1 capsule because it had a capsular contracture on that side, he didn't admit to implants making women sick either, I have fibromyalgia, as well as a ton of other stuff. I had my implants 20 yrs. I was sick for ten years before I figured it out. when I had my implants removed like I said I didn't know about this loving caring group. I went a whole year trying to get better and not getting completely better, I got my memory and brain function back but that was it, thaen I looked at my operative report and that is when I swa that I still had a capsule left in there. I was having really bad staph bacteria, Large nasty hard bumps everywhere that wouldn't go away with meds. Anyway I had to go for another surgery trust me you don't want that, get it done right the first time. Take care we are here for you, we are real women that care, Terri P > > just wondering why it is not a good idea to have the original dr remove > them? I figure he will not charge as much.
