Guest guest
I just wanted to share a success story. One of my fellow Senior PST's knuckled down and saved a little boys life 2 weekends ago. It seems that the Mother, her 20 month old, her boyfriend, and her brother (off duty Philly cop) were vacationing in a campground in my county for the labor day weekend. The child choked on a hotdog and stopped breathing. The 9-1-1 call was placed by the mother, needless to say she was hysterical. Our calltaker got the fiance' on the phone and CPR instruction was relayed to the brother. The ambulance had a delayed arrival due to the location of the patient deep in the back of the campground (25 minutes). The child woke from his coma 2 days later and is in perfect health, the Doctors think he MAY have some brain damage from the lack of oxygen, but if so, it should be minimal because we had rescue breathing within 20 seconds of receiving the call. Best we can guess, the call was probably placed 2 to 3 minutes after onset. The brother says he knew CPR from the job, but in the heat of the moment he needed guidance. Sounds to me like the cop and the calltaker saved this little boys life. To that I say Kudo's to Jim , Senior PST, Salem County NJ. J.
